Default 97 Cherokee Blower Problem

Bought my 97 Cherokee with this known problem: When the AC/heater blower was in position 3, the fan would not work.

Now that we are in Texas and its in the 90s, the fan completely stopped working in 1-3, and in 4 it makes are hard grinding/groaning sound (like it is going to break something). So no AC currently.

Any ideas?

Default Could it be the blower motor resistor?

Could it be the DMR as described in this (awesome) post:

?

Sounds like the blower fan is rubbing. Time for a new blower assembly - and a new resistor block while you're at it.

Just found this for the blower:

Looks like even I can handle this.

The resistor looks like it is covered here: http://www.cherokeetalk.com/forum/f6...acement-11133/

Thanks CCKen, you have helped me before, and I appreciate it.

Nice rodent nest, btw!

Does anyone know if it is possible/how hard is it to replace the blower without removing the evaporator (I think that's what the piece in the way is called)?

Did you watch the video?

It's that Accumulator, not the evaporator.

Yeah, I did watch it, but then I thought I had to depressurize the system, but now you say it, I see he just holds the evaporator (that's the name) off to the side so I should be ok.

thanks.
