A/C not working

clutch won't engage. any ideas? has nothing to do with the pressure switch or freon (very hot in san diego this time of year!!!)

did you check the cycling switch on the receiver/dryer? Unplug it and put a paper clip between the two pins. If your compressor comes on, then you have found your problem.

Engine: 4.3L with headers and full 3" exhaust system

That's a low pressure safety switch, but cycling switch is certainly easier to say. Make sure it gets power, and also try a wire directly from the battery to the wire on the AC clutch and see if it will engage.
