96 ZJ headliner overhauling
I had enough of my hanging headliner so I decided it's time for overhauling as I couldn't find a new one. After removing it (it was also a great opportunity to clean the necessarily removed trim panels) I cleaned the old carpet and foam from the frame, to have a clear surface for gluing. I used Henkel Terrasol contact glue spray. After cutting the new carpet material I glued it to the frame of the headliner, it ended up 90% result as I was alone and couldn't adjust the carpet fast enough, so there are some remaining air under it. With four hands, it would have been better. After waiting a bit I turned back the carpet at the edges and glued them to the other side also. I hope now it's going to last as long as the car

Looks nice man. I've got the same problem with my '96 ZJ. I've got small screws holding up my headliner til I can fix it. Couple questions for ya....
1...What did you use for the new headliner material?
2...Did you have to remove all the vinyl panel covers on the door frames and the rear panels?
3...Was there any special prep work for the material, as far as cutting and shaping it to fit the roof panel?
4...How long did it take you to do the whole job?
Again, very nice work dude....looks great.

Thank you, it was bothering me a lot, how it looked.
To answer your questions:
1: I used alcantara, but any material would do, what you like. What is important, it has to be flexible a bit, and the back side has to have a synthetic layer, not to suck the glue in the material
2: I'm not quite sure what you mean under vinyl panel cover. The plastic covers on the pillar A, B, C, D have to be removed (for B and C the safety belt has to be disconnected) and all the elements screwed through the headliner panel. After that the headliner can easily removed through the rear lift gate.
3: I did nothing special, just marked the shape more or less on the material, covered both surfaces with glue spray and fit them together. Just an advice, it's much easier to position the material without air bubbles if you have somebody to help. I was alone, and the end result was not 100%. After it's glued and fitted you can cut the rest, just leave 5-10cm that you can turn back and glue it to the other side, I believe it will last longer that way.
4: With disassembly, and assembly it took 8 hours for me, but I was alone. With a helping hand it can be faster.
It's not a big thing, it's only hard to start. I'm waiting for the pictures how it turned out with yours

I wish I could do my headliner, but I have a stupid aftermarket sunroof and the headliner is not really on the backboard.
