So I haven't had a big update in a little while, but here's my excuse - on Kodiak, being an island that's rather remote with little outside support, we have limited options on a lot of things. One of those is internet - there's only two options and I've got the one that the cable company provides. I love the TiVo and the DVR, and I've got plenty of channels like BBC (for Top Gear,) Spike for stupid Sunday morning shows, and of course the SEC network for football season. However, they limit your data every month just like a cell phone. Last month we downloaded a few movies for the kid and four days before our new billing cycle we came to about 97% of our data allowance. So we stayed off the internet, didn't download, didn't upload... it was a little hairy towards the end. Now we're good again, so now I've returned to the interwebs.. didn't miss out on some good work though.

After trying again and again to mate the transmission to the engine, I finally gave up after a few different ATV and transmission jacks and pulled the engine back out. I pulled out the engine-trans-transfer case a whole, so I should be able to put it back in that way. Well, if you have the chance you should pull the transfer case, only because it's the widest part and the first one to go in. I did all this myself and kicked myself after I had it all hanging in the air for not just doing it that way.

Was working for awhile when I looked up and realized that every vehicle in the hobby shop was a Jeep - does that say that there's a lot of Jeeps here, or that the ones that are, are the ones needing work? I play count the solid axle Jeeps on my drives to town and I've found that about 1 in 5 vehicles here are Jeeps and about 1 in 11 is an XJ. Seriously, I counted I guessed 150 cars I saw parked or driving, and there were over 30 Jeeps and I think 14 XJs. Not to mention the junkyard. Speaking of..

I went to the junkyard to check out if I could find that stupid PCV grommet for the front. Both of my valve covers are missing it, so I figured I could find one real easy. Apparently there was a run on taking them all off, because I could not find one.

Par for the course when you're looking for a stupid grommet..

I had two missions while there, and the first was the grommet and any other little **** I might need. There's a real decent selection of Renix Jeeps here.. every ZJ I found was a 5.2.

I think there's 5 XJs in those pictures. That's mostly domestic trucks in that corner, so there's an abundance of good stuff honestly.

Oh yeah, this gem:

A guy that works there told me that his cousin? wrecked into one of the very few guard rails here (well under 100 miles of paved road total..) and the fire department used it to practice their new saw on.

Found these two next to each other. Would be great if the one wasn't a 2.8! First one I've ever seen in person I think.

Here's Kodiak, for any reference needed. It is awesome that I get the opportunity to live on an island, an island in Alaska of all places, but that poses plenty of chances and problems in itself.

The holy grail! The ground was literal soup so I didn't crawl under to check gear ratios, but I'm very willing to go numerically higher up front if I have to.

Got the manifolds on after having to helicoil the front exhaust stud. I hate doing that.. it's not hard, it just sucks. That kit was $30 at NAPA.

A lot of plastic broke off stupid things. Throttle works great but can't seem to grab park. Hope the low fluid is the problem, and not the cable. That's $70 on Amazon, but c'mon! It's ziptied for now. Accept it.

Big shoutout to all that have been helpful, JF being a big, big help for a lot, lot of things. But those less mentioned..

This Clymer manual, published in 1991, since it has a few pages dedicated to 1991+ HO, but most everything is either Renix, 2.5, 2.8 or 2.1 diesel. Awesome book that I think I'd just about buy a 1984-2001 Clymer to trade for this one. I think I'm starting to like these Renix Jeeps, and as such...

Second thanks goes to Cruiser54 for his Renix page, for which otherwise I'd just be waddling along without thinking to look at this - the worst connector of them all, but pretty close to what I was looking at all over. This is what took most of my time - not just doing it, but doing it right. Check your junctions!

And a quick thanks to the guy that trashed the stock part these replaced - they'll work great for me! Look to be stock TJ shocks, but they rebound great!

Subbed. In northern California. If you need anything XJ that can be shipped let me know. I go to the junk yards at least twice a month and there is always several renixes there. I've shipped XJ parts all across America to people on this forum and am always happy to help a fellow Jeeper.

I'm at the hobby shop the other day for work reasons, not Jeep related, but
there's a guy in there with a Renix XJ. I talk to him to see what's going on,
and he's doing an engine swap on his 87 - the white one in the picture. Ask him
what's going on, what the whole story is because my 89 is in there after I just
finished that exact project. He says that it's smoking and it's got a knock, so
he got the blue and black one for free. A free, running, Renix 2-door. Yeah.

I told him it took me nights and weekends to get where I am. That I had to pull
the whole engine-trans-xfer case to get it out because of those stupid e12
bolts. He had to think if his time was worth it, because he only paid $1200 to
begin with. He told me that he could only get it a few hundred for it anyways.

Enter new guy at work, E-2 straight out of boot camp, looking for a car under a
grand. I found a '92 Ranger 4x4 5-speed for exactly $1,000 for sale tell and
offered to go look at it with him. He said his parents advised against it, early
90s Fords aren't reliable. Bull spit, all Fords are unreliable and you can't
single out the early 90's models. (Honestly it was the last year 2.9, the most
reliable of the lot, and I would love to end up with that truck... I think he
was afraid of it being stick. Blah!)

So I tell don't-want-to-work-on-his-Jeep-XJ-guy that I know a guy who wants
cheap transportation. Doesn't-want-to-do-the-work calls shat-for-brains E-2 and offers him both Jeeps, for FREE. Yeah, Free.99. Zero dollars. I run over to check out how bad of a mess SFBE-2 got himself into. Yeah, it smokes on start-up. It's got some miles, and the rings are getting old. It runs awesome, the 231 shifts into all the ranges and there's a slight lifter tick. I told him that tomorrow I'll get him hooked up right, run some Lucas and 15W-40. He got a screaming deal... I hate him more now.

Been down and out the past weekend plus, the whole family was sick and I'm just now feeling like getting back to work. Had to order some parts - I was tired of dicking with half-bent and rusted trans cooler lines so I just sucked it up and ordered new ones. $30 each on Amazon, whatever.. it's something I won't have to worry about later. Got the radiator installed the other night and finished up little wiring issues here and there, but finally last night SHE CRANKED OVER!! I think I've got a small issue with my #3 injector not sealing to the head but it's hopefully just an o-ring issue. Today I've got to get some fresh gas to put in the tank, put the battery on charge and I hope to have her running this weekend.
