Default Heepin along...

I had been looking for an XJ for about a month saving up cash and watching the market.

This Jeep caught my eye, it was decent all around, was banged up a little, but had the majority of a motor refresh done by a shop and the records to prove it plus a few other goodies.

However, it ran really rough, had charging problems despite a new battery and alt, faulty gauges, part time stuck on, a cherry bomb exhaust only half way back, all the wiring was messed with and out of the loom, loose tilt steering, front u joints flop in their sockets, bald front tires, mooshey brakes, door locks didn't match ignition and have no key... I'm sure there was more but you get the idea. A real fixer upper as they say.

It started high on the market over 2k, then down to a grand and I asked to come see it. After finding most of the above list I walked away. Then he called and asked if I would take it for $700. Done deal!

So here it is the 1989 Cherokee Laredo. AW4, factory sun roof, c clip D35 and D30. 82,XXX miles but I'm pretty sure that's 182,XXX miles...

The day I got it:

I've done a few things already that have helped quite a bit:
-Ground wire upgrades (fixed the charging issue)
-Vacuum refresh (Still more to go)
-NSS cleaning
-Tightened tilt steering
-Replaced bad O2 sensor with a Bosch.
-Set TPS
-Wires, cap and rotor (had new plugs already)

It idles even now but its low because the IAC valve is bad and sometimes races when its stuck. It was cleaned at one point before and probably damaged at that time.

The manual fan bearings were shot and wobbling so I got a shorter belt and bypassed it. Then wired up a new relay to the existing one and installed a 14" Hayden electric fan that blows 1300cfm. For $70 I have to say that fan works extremely well. It pulls in so much air you can stand in front of the jeep and feel it reflecting off the motor. I had to double check that it was actually pulling and not pushing I was so shocked lol. 100% satisfied with this install!

The next phase of things involves a trip to the JY for some odds and ends:
-IAC Valve (worth a look at $65 new)
*Didn't find a good one so I had to buy a new one. BWD one works really well.
-Open cooling system (Rad, bottle)
-Maybe vacuum fittings/hoses for 4x4 part time prob
*Got a few new fittings here but still stuck. Need to look at trans side switch.
-ZJ track bar
-Maybe some AC parts to fix it; might just leave it till next summer
-Stock exhaust parts (even old is better than this blaster pipe)

I ended up finding a few extras while I was there like a cig lighter, visors, and a better shift handle too.

I pulled the plugs and they are fouled from a rich condition for a while so I need to pick up a set of those so it will stop missing. After that it should run pretty decent!

It's that fun time where I start buying loads of parts for the jeep.

Next week I'll be getting in a few goodies:
Pacesetter header kit

Magnaflow muffler and 2.5" tailpipe

Magnaflow high flow cat

Spicer 5-760x u-joints

Motor and tranny mount kit
