96 Cherokee Rear WINDOW Defroster question
Hey Guys, been searching the site and can't find exactly what I'm looking for so I thought I'd ask the experts.
With winter here I'm in need of my back window defroster to be in working order. Here's the deal, it worked last year as it should, now when I hit the button to turn it on, the light on the switch won't illuminate. I checked the switch, and even went to the JY and got two others, my current one and the two others won't light up either. I checked the fuse, it's good. I went and bought a new relay today but am unsure where the relay is located on a 96.
If it's under the dash I think it may be working as I think I'm hearing something clicking when I hit the switch, but again no light. Some one told me just cause it's clicking doesn't necessarily mean it's good.
All the strips on the back window are in great shape with no breaks. Your assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

Forgot one other thing, the relay I bought is BLACK, I read there maybe a RED one that is a 10 min relay, so it only operates for 10 minutes..etc
Is this true also...
Thanks again

Turbo, thanks for taking time to help me out. Only problem is my fuse panel under my dash does not look like the diagram below, nor does the breaker panel under my hood.
I started removing the lower portion of my dash to see if there are relays under there as this is where I hear the clicking coming from where I hit the switch.
Its just so friggin cold here today that I can't work out side much past 10-15 min without my hands starting to go numb.
Thanks again for taking the time to help me

Well I found the relay, its located under the dash. I had an old relay laying around, I put it in and the light on switch lit up....but it stayed on, so now I know my switch is good, rear defrost is good, relay = BAD....
Today I'm heading to the JY and getting the red relay ( which is the color of mine ) from a couple of scrapped Cherokee's. Local parts store wants $45.00 for a new one...forget it...to much.
Thanks very much for those of you who replied, appreciate the help. Enjoy the balance of the holiday
