Default 1994 XJ engine in a 2000 XJ

Will a 1994 4.0 XJ engine work in a 2000 XJ?
Thanks in advance

Bump for an answer, curious myself. The R9640421AA from dodge is supposed to be good for 92-01 xj's, 92-99 wranglers, and 92-98 zj's but there is a cam difference starting in 96 , a little milder

you can make it work but i wouldnt
the 94s intake manifold is different and i think the fuel rail is to
just throw another 2000 motor in
or stroke your old motor

Yes, but you will have to swap everything over, intake, fuel rail, sensors accesory drive(PS Pump). All in all its not that bad, it just depends on how good of shape the 94 is there are plenty of newer engines unless you just need to get it going. look for a 97+ engine then you would just have to swap the pick up for your ignition i n place of the dist.

I know this is a pretty old thread, but I've been trying to figure this out for a while. I'm trying to swap an older 4.0 into a 2000 cherokee. I'm not concerned about the exhaust manifolds. My main concern is the distributorless ignition and the flywheel. I read somewhere that the 2000 flywheel won't bolt onto the older crank, is this right? Also, what is different with the distributorless ignition? I'm guessing the pickup won't read properly off the older distributor drive gear? Any suggestions would be great.
