the shock looks fine. that silver sliver (say that 5 times fast) is a section that looks like it got rubbed and some paint and-or mud rubbed off. doesn't cast a shadow and follows the contours of the shock perfectly.

My stock coils were 12 years old and they looked better when they came off than the RE coils do. The fact that they continuously ask about road salt tells me that they're aware of a flaw in their product, they're just not addressing it. The powder coated finish has broken down quite a bit and the coils are rusty. The OE coils were shiny and black the day they came off.

I personally dont see a problem with RE and the way they responded.
The spring is 3 years old and they still offered to replace it.
I think thats very good customer service.
How many other companies do you know of that would after 3 years of their products use on a 4wd vehicle that would replace a broken part?
Im sure you baby it as you say but if every company replaced a broken part from everyone who says "they babied it" they would go out of business quickly.
RE as well as probably every other lift kit maker doesnt make all their own products as the conversation about the shock reveals..
The foundry that makes RE's springs more than likely makes many many other brands of springs also and the same failure could have happened on any of those as well. All it would take is a bad batch of steel to make a flaw in any of them.
I would have been very happy that they would replace the one broken spring.

of course you can by a single spring. i had to buy a single rear leaf spring, and almost immediately after i purchased it RE called me to confirm that i wanted just one. they said it wouldnt sit level because one is old and ones new, yea no kidding. as far as them not sitting level big deal, shut up and drive it and it will soon settle and youll be riding even.
ive had nothing but positive experiences with RE, seems like your one of the few that got shafted.

They did say they would pro rate the other spring which is what a part store does with a warrantied part and more than most aftermarket companies would do. As for RE, my first lift for my XJ was the 4.5" and the front springs settled from 5" to about 3.5 in less than 3 months, the bushings in their control arms are an oddball size and have to be replaced with their stuff unlike most other arms. Not putting down their junk cause I still run some of it but the best they are not. I think some people see how high their stuff is and think it has to be good but this isn't always the case.

4.5 RE lift here in southern Arizona on a trail rig and my lift still sits at 4.5 and holding up well. I keep everything greased and maintaned too. Wouldnt even consider RC with this RE lift.

In my opinion, I can see where both parties are coming from.
From a business's standpoint, it's smarter to warranty only one spring. But from the consumer standpoint, I'd want both springs replaced. It came as a kit, and in the site it's sold as a pair. To me it wouldn't be an issue of sitting higher on one side/letting the new coil settle...for me it would be an issue of the metal in the old coil. If one broke, and say there was a defect in the composition of the metal used for that particular set of coils, what's to say the other spring won't fail as well?
I can appreciate what RE is willing to do to rectify the situation, and like I said from a business's standpoint, that's what seems to be the right course of action. And you can't fault them for doing whats right by them. Every customer is different, but if it were me I'd be wanting both replaced just due to the question of the metal.
