Default Unusual grinding or knocking noise

I have a 1992 jeep Cherokee xj Manuel, I noticed this noise come down from the mountains and it sounds like it’s happening between the belling housing and the engine but I could be wrong. I tried pushing the clutch in but the noise stayed the same. The oil pan is dropped right know and I checked the main bearing on where the rear main goes and it looks good, the pistons sidewalls look good. My oil pressure is around 40 at idle and 70 under a load. I didn’t notice any power difference. I can’t check to see if the flywheel is cracked because the dust cover attaches to the whole belling housing. I could moving it at all through the whole with the starter in it. Would love some help

I doubt the flywheel is cracked cause it’s a flywheel. Flexplates are known to crack cause they are so thin. I would check your trans mount first to see if it’s causing your exhaust to hit the crossmember. That is a very common problem.

wouldn’t the sound go away if I pushed in the clutch. It doesn’t go away with the clutch in.

It depends on the condition of the bearing. Your looking for ideas, its something to check.
