My 2000 has the original booster, its the only part of the brake system that hasn't been replaced. It looks ugly lol but the thing works fine. I'm curious how long it will last.

When I redid the brakes on it, I did everything from the master cylinder down, well the little valve thing is oem too, but all hard lines, soft lines, drums, calibers, rotors, etc...

My brake pedal is on the softer side. I can press on the brake pedal with just my big toe and easily stop (don't ask me why I was driving bare foot)... I reckon you could unplug the vacuum hose to the booster (and cap it) to see how it feels without any assist. Just to compare.

Sorry, what year is your xj? I know that the 96+ Booster is an upgrade for the earlier ones. And who knows if it was replaced with an older model(??) But don't know if it continued to the end of run in '01.
Like I said with my son's 01, with his 33's it wasn't anything like mine. I can lock them up on mine!

Just realized I never closed this thread out with a solution. It was the booster. I replaced the booster and the brakes feel much more assisted now; just the way I thought they should feel.
