Finished welding the frame stiffeners in. Got both rails fabbed up and the pass side welded in. I'll get the drivers side tomorrow after work. Then I have a huge cancer hole in my pass floorboard to deal with.
Got my value adjusted +$500 for the insurance company. That includes buy back, so I should be sitting pretty. I will miss ol' Jeepy. I don't think I'm getting another one. Don't make enough to have a third toy vehicle.
So not too much energy today. Hauled out the compressor and gave it a test run with the water separator hooked up. All seem fine. I checked the air filter, I usually replace every two years, but knew that it would be fine. So just a quick blow out and put it back.
Some of you might remember that I had a extra factory rear tow hook and wanted to see if I could some how put one on the passenger side. So awhile back I had my buddy separate the two pieces with his new plasma cutter. Well got around to mocking it up today. Think I am going to give it a go. Will give it back to him so he can reweld it like it needs to be. Of course it took him a long time to get it separated, was in no hurry, and figure it will be awhile before he gets it welded. But when stuff gets done free you have to go with it. LOL.
I replaced all 4 boots on the tie rod ends and drag link ends.
I had trouble finding the correct boots and didnt actually find exactly what I needed but I found some that worked just fine. I had posted pics awhile back of my steering setup to ask what exactly it is and a few people said it was Rugged Ridge HD or something like that. anyhoo I measured the boots and found some from Energy Suspension that are the correct size as far as the openings but they were a little too high. So I made them work
I dont have before pics but believe me, only one out of 4 boots where actually intact and holding all the grease in. So even though this isnt a perfect fix, it was very cheap and 100 times better than before. before i put the new boots on i purged all the old grease out with new
A little too tall so it smashed a bit
Drag link to pitman arm - I cut this one down about 1/4 inch
This end was a bit different it must have been replaced or something in the past. it ballooned out a bit
something simple...but wanted to do it for a while now just for piece of mind... added a locking fuel cap. don't know why these didn't come with one or at least a locking access door.
Funny, I did mine the same way and a lot of people gave me **** saying they won't work. I've already used them going over trees and they worked just fine.

That's just a lot of leverage and hanging out there. I'd break them personally. I believe his are still closer in than yours, but I come down very hard and use mine a lot. Different things work better for different people. If you're gently pivoting around trees or barely hitting them it's probably fine, but I can't imagine them holding up to what I do without at least destroying my rockers. The guys I Wheel with that have sliders under their rockers (versus replacing rockers) all have had them flex up enough to dent the rockers.
