This is the best shot I’ve got on flat ground. Still a little down, but leafs are still settling.
Does anyone know what the optimal space there should be? (The red in picture).<br/>Mines at 1 & 3/4 inches .

if it were me i'd disconnect rear drive shaft put it in 4 wheel and see if it still makes noise if it does put rear axle on jack stands turn tires and listen i'm almost willing to bet they set the bearing preload wrong or jackrd up the bearing install and scared a race all in all lrss than a hours work.

My gut is it was set up wrong, like you mentioned.
It made noise from the minute I first got it back.
Odd thing... it makes no noise coasting backwards down a hill in neutral...

Plenty of spline in the yoke, your good.
You had to correct the angle first before going any further on isolating any other problems.
Keep up with it!
Btw, you want the pinion to be a little low, as it settles the pinion will go higher. Also consider added cargo.

How much play is left in the driveshaft halves. Looks to be at its limit now. Refresh my memory, did the shop get this for you?

If op is really curious about how much spline is inserted into the yoke...
I would be willing to bet there's a vent hole in the cap of yoke. Put a length of mig wire in it and see where it bottoms out. Imo that driveshaft is 1/2" from fully collapsed.
That is how I checked mine, I called Tom Woods driveshaft about that and gave them the same measurement in question. They were able to determine from the specs. They built the driveshaft to that all was good.
Don't forget to wear safety glasses when working with mig wire in this application, it will poke your eye out!

He should be fine. My guess is that he has an inch of forward travel left. When Adam's paints the driveshaft, they do it at the suggested ride height length. He has some silver showing so I would say it's near perfect. Also, keep in mind, as the suspension compresses, the axle moves backwards so there shouldnt be much forward movement of the driveshaft.
Some places paint them fully collapsed, yada yada.
Either way that's two people in agreement, 5 Speed has more clout then me
But anyway, that's one issue resolved.
Personally I would think the next step in the process of this thread would be draining the t case fluid and posting a picture of it in a clean milk jug and...
Removing the front driveshaft.
It'll help isolate other problems.
