If this does not work I will pull the NSS, clean and make sure that it is mounted correct.

Any other ideas besides hitting it with some 00 Buckshot?
lol... well before I went the route of buckshot, I'd definitely replace the bulb for your CEL and try the key dance again.

You make a valid point! I will have a go at pulling the side part of the dash out the next few days and see what the bulbs are like, getting fault codes would make things easier, although knowing what XJ's are like ....

First off, Merry Christmas to all the fellow Jeep owners on here.

Like most of us I have been busy doing other things then working on my 95, but got back into it again today (yeah on Christmas day) and as per advice from Basslicks I fixed the warning CEL lights, and did the key dance several times, and the code I got is, 1-2-5-5, meaning battery has been disconnected recently and end of code, damn no error codes to help me narrow down my problem. So as part of the process of elimination I removed the NSS, and pulled it apart, kinda dirty inside and will clean it out and get it back onto the car the next day or so to see if that does something O/D wise.

I also started the 95 after sitting still for nearly a week, and the O/D problem that has been there that only really happened when it warmed up was there from the moment I started it, before things even warmed up, so that's kinda odd.

Is there something as a solenoid near the shifter under the console that governs the tranny shifting? Is there something inside the tranny that could be dead, I have put 3 new solenoids in the tranny. I am also as a last resort going to drop the tranny pan, to make sure the electrical connectors aren't lose, but only after the NSS is back in place. I am running out of ideas and it is doing my head in big time, so any ideas or help guys would be greatly appreciated.

OK good news, O/D is back! Well yet to drive it, but I have drive back again and that was always an indicator there was a problem shifting, ain't going to say what I did to get it working again as I want to test drive it tomorrow, time for some cold beers.

what died you do to get your o/d back? I'm having similar issues with my 95 jx as it has no o/d but also starts in what feels like 2nd or 3rd in drive but drives like a bat outta hell when shifted manually..

The fuse for the auto under the hood was lose, yeah kinda odd and embarrassing. pushed it back in and it fixed the problem.

If my memory serve me right, it was one of them smaller 10amp fuses, seeing my XJ is right hand drive, it has a engine bay black fuse box on the right hand side near the battery, when you look underneath the lid it has every fuse numbered to what they are there for, so when I saw the word automatic (or something like it) I had a closer look, and there are several of the same size, and the problem one was not sitting down as far as the others, I pushed it in, and presto! O/D was fixed. I had a go at lots of other things, but it was only a fuse, but still good checking things and fitting new parts, the 95 runs really well now, tranny shifts great, just never thought this problem that looked so bad was caused by a loose fuse!

Good luck and let us know how you go with it.

Thanks. Looks like I'm gonna check through the fuse panel again. I'll let you know
