I made an overhead mount that runs across right behind the visors to hang my radio from made out of aluminum stock. I then mounted the mic clip to that. or it could be hung on the side of the radio also at that point.

I like the idea of this. The Mic cord doesnt impead your vision much? Would really like to see pictures if you have em?

I have the cobra 75 wx thingy, so no big box just the self contained Mic etc... so I need to be able to read the digital display on the mic itself.

Give me a day or two and I can try to do that for you. I currently have it removed because I rolled the Jeep and I'm trying to hammer that particular front roof area back into place enough to maybe get a windshield back in it. lol

No it doesn't block my view because I used one of those mini bungee cords to hold up the middle of the cord coil.

Wish I had thought to grab a picture of it before I rolled it. It really worked out well and still allowed the visors to work unrestricted as they should. But I had to give up my rear view mirror for the radio.

My XJ was owned by a city in Tenn. since she was new, until I got her. And they had one mounted with dials/face facing up right on the side of center console on the passenger side about in line (forward) as the ash try lid. I'm thinking of putting one right back there. Seems like a handy out of the way spot that you can still easily reach it for the unit and mic.
I can take a pic of where the mounting bracket used to be if you're interested... lemme know

deffinately. I know I won't be using it all the time but looking for the best spot that others found comfortable without taxing space and passanger and driver mobility.

I will still try to get a picture of it later in case someone else wants to give it a go. It really did work out well and tucked up in there nicely. In fact during use I noticed that it helped absorb most of the offroad shaking and shock on the radio like a leaf spring. And being a commercial driver from way back, the center overhead mounting is just "natural" for me because this is where all truck radios are mounted.

This is where I put mine after trying a few different spots. I really like it here. Just have to pull it off the clip if I need to scoot the passenger seat the entire way forward

I think it might make a difference how big the radio is. My radio is much bigger than yours, I wouldn't be able to mount it there. Mine would reach all the way back to where your mic button is.

Mine was in the way everywhere I tried to mount it low because it is so big so I had to make the overhead mount for mine.
