I could use some guidance here. I'm at the tail end of my LS swap and I just need to wrap up the wiring. The factory tach and speedo are what I wish to use. My XJ is a 1992. The LS PCM is a Gen3
After spending many hours online I am no further ahead. I've read some suggestions to use the Dakota Digital tach convertor. I've not actually read that someone used it successfully, just recommending it.
As far as the speedo, I've found nothing at all.
I'm not wanting to spend money on the tach and then find no solution for the speedo.
I don't wish to do a whole custom cluster of gauges, this will put me way over budget and I wanted the stock look.
I've been thinking about a meter shop. In the past I've had some repair work done but nothing custom.
if so you should be able to run the vss 4k out put wire into the jeep vss signal wire and calibrate it to the proper pulse for the gauge
im my case i have the gm vss in the transfer case adapter and the jeep vss in the transfer case(stock) then i have the 5v ref for the jeep vss coming from the egr 5v ref pin in the pcm(my motor dint have egr so it was free)
as far as the tach goes heres how i wired it:
in most cases the tach out put signal i too weak to drive the gauge so it needs boosted
the only draw back is the calibration is off and my tach reads about double what the 5.3 is actually running. but im fairly certain that can be fix with HP tuners
also the jeep tach can be calibrated its self there should be and adjustment scre on the back of the tach its self but you have to remove the gauge from the cluster its self
I've got HPTuners so I can adjust the tach & speedo output.
The signals out from the PCM may not be strong enough. I've tried the resistor thing with the tach, didn't work with a 1.8K ohm. I'll try the 1K tomorrow.
I've got to move on. I've spent hours online and on the phone looking for answers. I've tried resistors and no go. Dakota Digital assures me this is what I need. So hopefully in 2 weeks I'll have this thing on the road.
01 5.3 pcm. 0411 to be specific.
trying to run oem 95 xj gauges
Ok cool. The red/blue ecus are simple. I don't think you will be able to get the tach to work without mods but the speedo should be easy. There is a company out there that can convert the tach over to work with the v8 tach output. I think they are called redline gauge works. Check them out.
