So before I leave the JY with the shaft I can measure it fully collapsed and it will be 33 in. from end of u joint to end of u joint if it is the right one?
Spartan, I didnt mean to butt in on your post. Thanks for the info on the SYE install. I have a friend with a lift that will help with not removing the TC. Still post when you get it done please.
Gotta front drive shaft from a 94 ZJ automatic with a V8, that was the ticket for $70. Thanks for all your input fellas, everything is back together now
Samiam, the front drive shaft I got measured 33.5 collapsed, just as the link that Freegdr posted. There's a wide variety of drive shafts.
As for the SYE kit, download the video and watch it a few times. Pause, play, rewind and you'll get it. Almost forgot to mention, you'll need access to a hydraulic press to push out the ring bearings on the output shaft. It makes room for the new and bigger output shaft when you go to install. Takes less than 60 seconds to do.
This was my first time working on a transfer case, installing the lift and mounting/balancing my tires. If you have the hunger and tools to learn, be patient and youll be able to knock it out.
Appreciate the advice and the encouragement. Already watched several videos of SYE installs many times, both in and out of the vehicle. Been tryin to find the best deal on an advanced adaptor kit, hoping for a sale. Its the next thing on the "to do" list.
As far as the install, I pulled the transfer case out and did it on a work bench. Yanking it out wasn't bad. Had to pull the center console and access panel under shifter to get to bolts on top. The hassle of removing it was less than working under the Jeep the whole time IMHO. I'm getting too old to be laying on the garage floor, getting up and down constantly to grab another wrench. I found the BleepinJeep video excellent to follow while doing the conversion. I had the video cued up while I did mine, pausing it and performing steps as I went.
Now if only I could find a V8 ZJ driveshaft. I have an auto and the front shaft in the rear is adequate, but now I want to move the axle back an inch. Anyone in VB got one laying around?

Just wonderful! Finding a 93 to 96 Grand Cherokee with a V8 is like finding a needle in a haystack. Also, some confusion here, why is the yoke called a 1310 CV when what you want is universal joint shaft?
