If it doesn't work out, can you go complain to them for me?
In other news, I have decided to tackle the gear swap in the rear. I have another buddy who says it should be easy. So I will be going to his house on Saturday to see what kind of madness we can make. Now since I am not forking out any $$$ to do the install, I am trying to get an Aussie here by Friday. No luck so far. Went to the Jeep place next to my work and they refuse to carry or install any kind of lunchbox locker. Says they are the worst thing ever and guaranteed to break. So it looks like I will be keeping the open diff for a little while.
The 8.25 was easy to set up. If you have any questions, shoot me a text.

Thanks for the offer. You will probably be hearing from me haha. You said you didn't need that fancy tool that goes down the axle tube, right? What did you do instead? Any pictures of the tool?
Edit - Adding this in so its easy to find later. Found a good write up with pictures. HERE
You still might. I dont really like how it only has one bolt to hold on one of the arms. I feel like over time its going to move. I might have to drill another hole in it and add a bolt if it does. But it does shift how it is supposed to!
I really dont think I have posted any pictures after the new front lift. I left the Jeep out over night so I actually have a picture of it in the day light! I will be taking care of the rear squat sometime. And I came out to no leaks this morning. Really hoping I got them all solved.
I let it go through a couple more heat cycles tonight. Sucked in more coolant. So I took it around the block a few times and all is good! Doesnt even get close to 210

did you ever see those spill-less coolant funnels? I here good things about them.

Ya those things are fancy! It would have come in handy. But I think I got all the air out. Just had to do it the time consuming way. Pretty much sits right at 200° now and doesnt move.
Well since everything seems to be good on the Jeep, me and my buddy decided to go up one of the local trails. This one was about 5 miles from my house. While my Jeep did just fine in 2wd with an open diff (made it up some rutted out hills that I didnt think was possible), I cant say so much about the Renegade.
The trail is pretty much just a smooth fire road with random hills to go up on the sides. So I brought some tools but nothing to pull anyone out. You could take a Civic to 90% of the places on the road so I thought no big deal. Plus I dont have any tow hooks yet. Well as we were leaving the trail, my buddy found a little puddle. It was about 75ft from the main road. Well he decided he wanted to go through it.
Like most mud puddles, they are deeper then you think. Long story short, he buried it. This was at about 1130pm. We messed with it until about 1am until we deemed it too stuck. So luckily my neighbor was still up. Said he had a tow strap. So he shows up in his 4wd Silverado and brings these little tiny ratchet straps. You know how that went. After they broke all the straps, they called AAA. The tow truck winched him out like nothing. Lets just say I got to bed around 3am and back up at 730am. I am a little tired this morning...

that's about how mine runs, maybe just a tad hotter. I didn't have the same problems like you did when I filled mine. I kept jumping on the bumper and shaking the vehicle to get air out. I'm sure I didn't get anywhere near all of it during my jumping fit though.
That trail run looked fun, now you need a winch just for your buddy. You should make him split it with you. Since you will probably be pulling him out of mud holes more than yourself. Ha

Ya dont know why mine was a pain to fill but it was. It sucked in probably another gallon through the overflow tank after I first warmed it up and let the thermostat open. But whatever, its good now. 10° cooler then before and no leaks.
The trail was a blast. Perfect for the 2wd (technically 1wd) XJ. Lots of areas were challenging due to the massive trenches from the rain. But I just chose the right paths and made it to the top. Some hills took a couple tries. I even made it up a hill that the Renegade couldnt! His stupid computer controlled 4wd was acting up and when he got stuck in the mud, only the front tires would spin. So yes a winch would have been nice but that also requires a bumper to mount it on. I think a good tow strap and a place to hook it up will work until the winch and bumper happens.

I agree. He takes that thing everywhere. I am surprised at what it can do. He took me for a ride in it and i was impressed. Think of it like a stock xj with lockers.
Since tomorrow is gear swap day, i needed to get all the tools in line. First up, the home made axle tool. 3/8 drive on one side, 36mm nut on the other.
After that, another special tool you need is this tq wrench which i didnt have. It goes from 0-80 in lbs.
