looking at jeeps online, this 2000 XJ popped up, guy asking 900$ for it. 110k miles. i can probably deal it a little if i find sludge in the oil, which i'm expecting at this point (he doesn't mention it but i'm going in with an open mind), i'm wondering if it can work as a good parts car for my 96 or too much stuff changed. i know the aw4 has some changes and is more difficult to swap between those 2 years, but looking for more info. things like the intake, steering box, axle shafts, window trim and possible body panels might come in handy.
If it's relatively solid for a $900 XJ, it may be worth it to just fix whatever problems it may have and bring her back to life. It doesn't look bad from the pics but that depends on what kind of cancer is underneath. Rescue it, don't destroy it.
i know parts XJ sell for even less than that, but since it might be running, like jeepin said, i also had in mind to throw my old lift kit on there, fix everything up and let someone else enjoy it.
fred, what part exactly?
intake - 2000 intake is an upgrade as far as i know
steering box - the stock steering gear isn't the same on both? i didn't research this so it might be possible, figured if the durango box upgrade fits both, they probably have a pretty similar stock gearbox
axle shafts - how can it not fit if i have the same axles? like someone pointed out it's low pinion which i didn't think of, but the D30 and 8.25 shafts are the same? i have a late 96 with 29 splines shafts on my 8.25,
window trim - bleepin jeep has a video on this, replacing the window trim from a 96- to a 97+. i already got a set and it works fine, i just damaged two of them when cutting with a cut off disk and can't find them at the junkyard.
thanks for the replies, i'll go check it and consider it for the price, especially if it's running
