The only downfall of an SUV (cherokee) rather than a truck IMO is that I can't just throw a bunch of big stuff in the back. I think that a big basket style roof rack is the best solution that I can find to this problem. I'm looking to get one and I want to see what y'all have/ suggest. I would love to see pictures of racks people have and what they like about them or suggestions. I snowboard a lot which is a big part of why I want the rack so i like the ones that have the vertical bars closer together as they will hold my boards in better. Let me see what you guys have! I'm in need and would love to see the racks that you guys like!

Can you weld? If so, pick up some material and make one to your liking. Or they sell some decent sized ones on amazon for around $150

$115 rack made by ROLA. With the extension it would fill entire roof of XJ.

I have a couple yakima gutter towers and bars and they work great for almost anything; canoes, kayaks, lumber, doors, roof top tent, skis and my brother's snowboard (not all at once though). A basket doesn't seem necessary, use that money on other stuff!

Or get the yakima bars first and see how you like them. If you still want the basket, then you'll already have bars to mount it to. You don't want to mount the basket to the flimsy factory cross bars.

I'd rather have a basket personally. And yes it's mounted to the factory rails. Carries all my gear well. About 150 to 200 pounds just fine. It's a curt I think? Or warrior? Haha can't remember.

whatsv your budget? You can get some that are heavy duty and use gutters mounts, but are more expensive. This type can carry nore weight. Or you can get some that just sit on top of the stock bars and those are as lown as $100 I believe. All depends on what you want to carry and how much you want to spend.

I have a rage roof rack that I've had on a few vehicles now, and it has worked great for all of them. Its a lot longer than others out there, and I think it fits the XJ roof perfectly.
