It's the transmission cooler line to the radiator. If it's leaking and you have "bogging" you better check the transmission fluid level (hot fluid).

Here's a graphic that shows the cooler lines.

How do I take the hose off? There is this yellow plastic thing with tabs that seems to be preventing me from removing it

I see that you have a '96 XJ - correct? And that the disconnect has two yellow release tabs. You have to squeeze the two plastic tabs together while pulling the hose fitting off. Similar to releasing the tube from the adaptors at the transmission. See the pic.

yea, squeeze the tabs, push it on further, then pull off, might have to twist side to side at the same time to free it loose

Good work Andrea.

Now, how about the transmission fluid level?

Had to use the disconnect tool on my 97 for that one. Squeezing those tabs did nothing for me. Tool popped it right off, and no broken nails.

Those things are hideous. I cut them off and just use hose clamps. Just as reliable and a lot less hassle.

It was really low, like how was I able to drive anywhere low. I put two quarts in and I'm going to add more today.
