Yes they are bad the passenger side spring is 3/4" shorter than the drivers side. I'm looking to replace with as close to stock as I can.

How's your money situation? There are plenty of parts you can buy that match up from the bone yard.

I thought about this. they are cheap enough that Id rather have new. I just cant seem to find out what's the best product to replace them with. Moog springs seem to be what is the most available, but I have seen several posts saying that they are no good. I have already replaced the rear. Now its time for the front. What's the best OEM replacement?

I bought some leafs from General about 6 months ago very happy with them. Good customer service too, I called about them and they told me not to order the soft ones as they start sagging very quick, got the med. duty ones they came with the bushings ready to go.

Cool. Looks like medium are the way to go. Don't want any extra lift. It's already going to be a drastic change with my factory leafs that have a reverse arch.

As for coils. I haven't found any good replacements. Kinda bummed that general doesn't have coils for the xj.

The Crown coils I posted about earlier are stock height. The spacers are what gave me lift. Mine (part# 52001125) are considered heavy duty, but they make some that are considered light duty (part#52001122). I've seen good reviews for the HD springs, and I am happy with them. Online pricing seems to be around $50 each. Sometimes you can get 15% off that thru JC Whitney. I got them directly from the Crown retail store at the recommendation from the guys that work there.

I'll measure the spacer and estimate ride height with the spacer removed a bit later. I'll post results here.

MEASUREMENT RESULTS: Spacer measures at 1.5" tall. Measurement from the center of the wheel to the lower, outer edge of the fender flare is 20". Remove the spacer, the same measurement would then be 18.5"

I hope this helps.

Can anyone verify what's wrong with the Moog coil springs?

What is wrong with them. I have heard a lot of people using them with good results?

I have a set in my garage I didn't use, brand new. Couldn't get them to compress far enough and didn't trust my harbor freight spring compressors when I was installing my ACOS set up.

Idk. It's that whole variable rate thing. Read several reviews stating that the top part of the coil, which is the lower spring rate section, compresses completely and the spring grinds together.

at this point I'm probably going to use the springs from one of my other xj's. They ride an inch higher. I'm going to be replacing them with 2 inch springs from yet another of my xj's.

The 98 I'm going to use the stock springs from has 160k on it and somehow the coils are riding an inch higher than the 01 with 200k. Unless the extra weight from having full power doors could squat it an inch. The 98 is all manual. That doesn't seem possible though.

To me the MOOG springs which are progressively wound would bang together making noise. No added lift over stock. This is with new shocks. I ended up with the OME springs later. #630 ? at 200 bucks
The only true way to determine if you are lower, stock or raised is measuring between the top of the axle and the bottom of the frame.
Front 7 1/4"
Rear 6 1/2"
+ or - 1/2"
This is from the factory manual.
My Dormans have begun to sag at 4+ years and 70K miles. This is with a heavy rear bumper and about 100 lbs of tools and junk. Still rides very nice.

Well I ended up purchasing the Zone 3inch lift with leaf springs and the nitro shocks so I don't have to worry about finding parts anymore haha.

Turned out to be an interesting thread though, good input and thanks guys.

Cool let us know how the ride is and don't forget the pics. I have a 2001 I'm keeping stock height as my wife's daily on225-75-15. And the 98 will become my daily that I don't mind lifting a little so the 235-75-15 still fit without looking too small. These decisions were made to keep the price of replacing tires down. Already have a 98 on 33's and it's going to be difficult to afford tires when the time comes.

On the 98 I will run rusty's 2" coils and factory replacement leafs with lift shackles to lift and retain factory like ride. The coils actually ride really well. On my 98 with the 6 inch lift I need to get some control arm drop brackets and shackle relocating brackets. It rides horrible. I'm hoping by only lifting 2 inches I'll avoid the harsh ride in regard to the shackle and control arm angles.

I just ordered the Crown Auto OEM replacement HD coil springs. I hope they work as described.
