Talking Feeling pretty proud of myself...I ripped my muffler out yesterday

Hey guys, it's been a minute since I've posted here but fun things happened with the jeep. I was just driving along and all of a sudden my jeep gets loud and I hear a scraping sound. Pull over and just see my rear muffler just chilling. Still in the hanger but just rotted off the pipe. Call my brother and he told me if I could pop it out of the hanger and just dislodge it from the jeep I'll be good to go.

Wrestled with it for 10 minutes in a parking lot and I see a truck pull up. The guy was great and his immediate question was "you got any bungee cords?" sadly I didn't have any, all I had was duct tape. He gave me a couple bungee cords and secured it to my leaf springs until I could get to my friends house just down the road.

Got there then got to work wrestling with my muffler for a good 45 minutes lol. But hey moral of the story is perseverance and a little anger stored away from people you hate can make any job accomplishable hahaha

But seriously shoutout to the guy that gave me his bungee cords. He wouldn't let me give him anything for helping me but

I wanted a picture with it. It's the first part that I ripped off with my own two hands and having no experience or tutorial to go off of. Not that one was really necessary..but I'm really proud of myself for using my brain and working out the problem lol

Congrats! You're an official Jeeper now. With a little determination and MacGyver skill you will never be stranded.
Also rule #1 is to always have bungees, ratchet straps, zip ties, and a small assortment of tools in the back. With those few things you can conquer most any problem long enough to limp home.

Digging the pic as well, you look super stoked holding your trophy.

I have an assortment of tools, jack stands, ducttape and zip ties. The only thing I didn't have was the bungees. So I went to Sears and got some bungees. Next is straps lol. I was very stoked. I held it above my head and yelled Yyyeeesss haha

Yeah, I always keep bungies in my recovery box. Handy for so many things.

In this case I would have reached for some bailing/fence wire since it wont catch on fire like bungie cords could. Also good to keep in the recovery box (plus wire cutters)

Anybody got recommendations for exhaust? The cat is gonna rot off sooner than later here at some point too. Not looking to go top of the line parts but I'm not gonna go cheap either.

I'm running a slowmaster 40 and an AP hi-flo cat with a turn down. The in cabin noise takes a bit to get used to, but I'm happy with it.

There's before and after vids in my build thread. Can't get them to link to here with my phone for some reason.

You can get the stock exhaust from Advance Auto for not too much, you can bolt it in in the driveway. I have 3" exhaust on my Camaro, you don't want that noise. I love the quiet exhaust on the XJ, it's not a race car.

Agreed the wire is a must have for me and has been for over 50 yrs.

At the smaller muffler shops a full exhaust can be had installed with CAT for about $150 here in this area.

BTW always run the exhaust to the rear bumper in an XJ so you don't get exhaust fumes in the cab.
