Its thin metal and stands out if you have a aftermarket bumper so most take it off.

Factory skid plates are pretty rare. They mostly came on the "Up Country" package and Government issued Jeeps.

Once you lift beyond 3" the factory front skid no longer does it's job. It's actually kind of hard to see it on anything lower, too, so double whammy there

The factory front skid plate is good for nothing but getting in the way when you work on the Jeep.

What cruiser said. In the way. Hangs up a lot on stuff. Unless you weld some nuts to your body it's VERY frustrating if you want to take it off or put it back on. Mine has been hanging on a wall in my garage for a year now. Don't waste your time with them.

O yeah. Takes a lot to aim your XJ into something that can hang up that particular skid plate. And drag link. Cough. 3TREs. Cough cough $$ track bar + bushings. Cough. No hernia here.

I took mine off because it kept making contact with my aftermarket steering and causing it to bind when flexed. No fun when trying to use the throttle to power out of a tight spot and the damn steering is caught on the skid and the Jeep doesn't go where you want it to.
