Replace all the bolts even if they don't break, it will just save you agony next time.

There are some triangular access holes about 5" away from the rear shocks toward the center of the vehicle. Use a straw if you can and spray the PB all over the top nut that is welded into place. Let it soak as long as you are like, then remove the bolts slowly. After the first 1/4 turn tighten them again so that the rust moves out of the threads a bit. This method worked for me and I didn't break a bolt.

IF you do break a bolt then refer to this guide:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/s...-heavy-323809/

It is well made and the pics are invaluable.
Best of luck to you, its really not to bad. Just a reminder because I would feel bad if I didn't, but be sure to "chock" the tires on the ground if you are lifting half the Jeep at a time. Safety first!
Now can anyone verify that the dimensions he gave are the correct sizes for all of the shock bolts? I have all the pieces to my lift and am waiting on a good weekend to put them in. I have been soaking them in PB blaster, but I may as well just put in new bolts that way I save myself some trouble like somebody already mentioned.

I broke a couple of rear bolts, then drilled them out (you need a good bit) and fished some new ones in with fishing line through the pie hole (opening) nearest the holes. You might just want to put in bar pin eliminators or ditch your rear sway bar and use the parts to make a rear bar pin eliminator.

My XJ is in such good shape as far as rust i nver have to pre-spray any bolts. But yes its really a simple hour, two hour job.

For the rear upper shock bolts, i used the flag nut kit from Rough Country (part #1082). I could have fished new bolts thru as others have done, but for 20 bucks and change i felt the flag nut kit was worth it. No regrets. The only issue i had was fishing the old nuts out after breaking them loose. A telescoping magnet did the trick.

You do not need anything special for the front lower shock bolts. I had trouble with the upper nuts tho. Both were rusted so bad i had to cut them off. I used a Dremel and heavy duty discs of the same brand. Quite a few, actually. Just make sure you do not knick or cut the brake line on the driver side, and wear safety glasses.
