yeah, if yours is an automatic, then most likely, like 99% chance you have 3.55 gears. i see a 55 in the pic for the front diff tag, so unless someone spent lots of money swapping gears out, then i'd say for sure you have the standard 3.55 gears.

and yeah, by spring plates, i mean the leaf spring plates that go over the u-bolts. they may not be necessary, as i think the holes are elongated and may fit, or you can grind them out with a die grinder to fit.

as for driveshaft, some say you won't need the one for an 8.25, i don't know as i haven't done that swap, i've only went from d35 to factory d44 and did need the shaft, or a custom one made.

xjwonder, caged,
thanks for checking out these pictures, it does seem to have a 55 on there.
now i do see caged mentioned the year 97 automatic xj 8.25 and up and i wondered why so i read 97 and up has 29 spline and 96 and down is 27 spline these 27 spline axle will give me trouble or wont fit at all ?

oh, they will fit, and work for the average driver, but if you ever want to go with larger tires, larger spline axle shafts are stronger and can handle tires up to 35 inches.
the 27 spline axles aren't much stronger than d35 shafts.

the 29 spline 8.25 axles are much more desirable, that's all.

caged,
thanks for that input, our jeep is pretty much stock and this jeep wont be lifted any time soon.

does the chrysler 8.25 come with c-clips or not ?

[edit] are there different models just like dana 35 and 35c

thanks xjwonders,
so this might be a silly question, ive read its possible to switch brake shoes and drums from dana 35c to chrysler 8.25 maybe one stud is in the way but people get it working.
is it also possible to switch the axle shafts them self from dana 35c to chrysler 8.25 if i would get the 96 and down with 27 spline since my dana 35c is also a 27 spline ?

[edit] i think ive already answered that myself lol .. since my dana 35c is non c-clip there wouldnt be anthing holding them in.
