I know, since I'm on a tight budget with getting ready to go to school I was thinking about getting an Aussie for the rear. I'm just not 100% on everything that needs to be done with that though. The concept is simple enough but would I need to mess with backlash and preload?

Definitely won't have to adjust anything if you do it with the carrier in the diff, if you remove it you might but if you're careful it shouldnt be an issue either way.

What rear end does that Jeep have? I wouldn't spend much on a D35 personally. I have an Aussie in my rear and it took me 2 hours from tires off to back on and it hardly changes on-road manners for me and my grandpa-like driving, but offroad it's night and day difference.

Actually now that I think about it I remember that you only have to remove the carrier on the d30 since the pin won't clear unless you do.
I've got an 8.25 in it (27 spline) but don't know if it's worth it to just swap in late model axle shafts while I'm at it. Only problem with that is I dont have a bearing press.
And on top of all that I've got a SYE sitting in the back that I just need a driveshaft for so I think I should spend the money on that first, even though it's not as fun.

Yea drivelines are more important than lockers. Plus you can't just swap the shafts over thinking the 29 spline will go right int the 27 spline carrier. You need to swap the carrier too which includes setting the backlash and etc up, would be easier to swap the entire axle if you're not planning on regearing soon.

Yup. Essentials before the fun stuff. Regearing would be nice but isn't going to happen for a long time if ever.

Bought a rough country driveshaft and picked up some snap ring pliers. Hopefully I can get that started tomorrow after work. Would rather have picked up an Adams or Tom Woods driveshaft, but I can't go without a vehicle while they ship it to me after I can measure. So far I'm stickin to the title of my thread pretty good.

Never heard of anyone buying RC driveshafts. Post some pictures of it when it comes and looking forward to hearing how it works out.

Yeah I got it just the other day. Seems good, but my experience in such things is zero. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow.

Started on the SYE. Gotta take it to a shop after work tomorrow and have them press the needle bearings out and then I should be able to reinstall everything. Opted to do it with the case still under the Jeep. Did t take many pictures because I wanted to get as far as possible before it got dark. Stupid snap rings...

Wear on the inside of the case



Pickup tube

Looks like I need to buy a new chain. When I first popped the case it looked really loose, but I didn't notice wear on the case and pickup tube until just today.
Nobody in Pensacola can press out needle bearing apparently, and the one place that said they would wouldn't because the closed in 35 minutes and wanted to go home (They were literally sitting around when I got there) because it had been a long day. So I use a screwdriver and hammer as was extra careful. Got them out in about 20 minutes. Still would be had 15 minutes to sit...

I went with a lokka locker in the rear of my xj with ten factory shafts. I'm still running the 27 spline 8.25. I've been wheeling the **** out of it.
