In the last side view you can clearly see that the rockers are shot. This next project has been in the works since the day this Jeep was purchased. Although it had many rough drafts, from buying inner and outer rockers to the 2x6 box steel rocker upgrade. Price and time as it is I opted to upgrade instead of restore at this point.

Had to fix some floors too



That pesky spring perch area was a real PITA. I also found out my perch was rotted. I rebuilt with some 1/8th inch high carbon nickel plated sheet metal.

Luckily I had a parts jeep with solid rockers, So I chopped some pieces off to replace the rotted backing plate pieces on the passenger side.

 

So this is the 90 plug welded into the backing plate and floor, bent like a frame stiffener and used to weld on the 2x6 3/16ths box steel.



Next job was the 1.5" angle iron cut and bent to match the floor and plug welded from the inside to the backing plate and floor.

 

I cut the slider at 62" flat at the rear well, and 45% at the front fender well.

 

This also shows the 90 cut and bent to match the floors for welding.

 

I fabricated the sliders and capped them at 62". However I decided that I wanted them to be the full length in for when I put the flares back on and trim them. So I added a little extension that could be cut off later if I wanted to.

 

 

On to the driver side. I didn't take a whole lot of pictures as it's the same process mirrored. I did, however take the doors off to prevent irritating mild concussions from the work being done.


A couple of small patches in the floor and welded all up. I also did the removable door mod.

 

 

 

This brings us to it's current point. I still need to put the flares back on. And re-fix the headliner. I also need to do the removable door modification on the passenger side.

 

You will notice in the back ground of this photo, you'll see Mike's jeep. AKA 88 loredo, aka, unidentifiedbomb. Currently, it's what's being worked on in the garage. Although we are steadily nearing completion.
