After trying to install a new door check (Doorman 924-148) on the drivers door. The door check is preventing the door from shutting. I orientated the door check the same as the passenger door with the curve on the arm (see pic) facing in the same direction as the passenger door (outwards away from the hinges)
Do I have it installed incorrectly? The drivers side should be reverse of the passenger door?
Correct, all four doors, notches on arms face inwards.
Are you certain? Before removing the OEM on the passenger side. I remember the visible arm notch closest to the door, facing outwards, away from the door hinge. I took a look at it several times and could swear it was facing outwards. (towards a person looking at the door check while standing next to the inside part of the passenger door)
My two rear oem door checks have no visible notch. These are OEMs from 1998, same year as the oem from the passenger door.
What I'm going to do is install the good passenger side OEM, with the notch facing inward, on the drivers side. If that doesn't work will reverse the notch in the opposite direction. If possible try for a refund on the Dorman. Perhaps it's a defective unit.
__________
I tried the Dorman in both positions and the door would not close. When the Dorman arrived I noticed the arm was loose and easlly slide in and out and laterally left to right. The rubber piece easily slides as well, approx. ~3/8 inch gap between the rubber's metal washer and the door check body.
The materials and workmanship of the Dorman's China check is not the same quality as the OEM. Parts of the door check aren't perfectly straight appears to have been assembled loosely, whereas the OEM is good and tight with no slop with the arm and any other parts.
For the passenger side I'm going to take a look in the JY and try to find a good OEM.
Ok, I hope you can fully appreciate this because I:
1. Just stubbed my toe preparing to go outside
2. in the dark during a torrential freakin downpour
3. and yes, the notches on the front door checks face "inwards" the rear are smooth no notches.

Ok, thanks for looking. I'll install the passenger side inward as soon as I find another OEM door check.
