wanna ask why you have 4 new leaf packs? I have an old cheverlet truck trailer with huge leafs. I took them off today and going to try to bastard lift my rear this weekend. Will have to get longer u bolts at the part store though.
No reason other than I scored 2 pair of these brand new springs for a killer price. I've got the other set listed on Craigslist :-)
Very nice! Yeah my mom bought the trailer for 50 bucks and it sits way too high. Gonna switch the leafs around. Will let you know how much lift I will get out of it. Also do you know where and what are some good coils i can lift the front by 3 inches?

Sounds like you've got a plan. I can't comment on the lift, as I'm keeping mine stock height (just getting fresh springs under there), but if you search this forum, I'm sure there are some great suggestions floating around.
Alright. Just to lay some ground work, my wife is in Europe for 3 weeks (perks of being a teacher and having all summer to putz around). That means I get to use her car while the Waggy goes in the garage. It's kinda tough to do some of the major maintenance when you have to drive it to work the next day!
So, what's on the plate?
New timing chain and sprockets (I believe I'm rocking the originals)
New front crank seal
New water pump
New thermostat
New (to me) radiator (the other one was starting to leak)
Brake booster, master cylinder and proportioning valve (maybe) out of a '95 xj (bigger)
Potentially upgrade my headlights/harness
Trim the tabs in the valve cover around the ccv port
New calipers, wheel cylinders and rubber brake hoses
New spring on all 4 corners (stock height and stiffness)
Rebuild the steering box as it is leaking (that'll be a cool how-to)
New lower dash, as mine is cracked
Trailer hitch, so I'm not the only xj in the world without one
TPS and CPS sensors
Door seals, window seals
I'd like to do hinge pins, but I can't find any replacements whatever else pops up!
Stay tuned, much to come! I've already got the front clip and water pump off, but I'm going to wait until everything is done before posting anything.

Very nice let us know how it is coming along! I got the towing package on mine and after 27 years, those bolts do not want to come off! I attempted to remove them with pb blaster and a pneumatic impact as I needed to remove the leaf spring bolt on the lower part of the shackle because the hitch frame was in the way. But my only choice was to remove the entire shackle itself. Removing the front right leaf bolts was a whole another story. I broke the weld the holds the bolt inside the frame while I used a breaker bar. I had to drill and cut into the frame and get a 15/16 wrench and get a grip of it to loosen. Got the bolt off but that didn't work because the inside metal sleeve that sits in the bushing is rusted onto the bolt not allowing the bolt to. Tried hammering that out for hours and still nothing. I guess my only option now is to install the bigger leafs while the front is stuck on for the right side.
Engine: 4.0L HO I-6, 703 Injectors, Brown Dog Super Engine Mounts
the sleeve has a slot in it. Cut as much of the end of the bushing off as possible with a utility knife or hack saw, then use a screwdriver of chisel to open up the slot to allow the bolt to slide out.

sorry for hijacking your thread man, but we have the same jeeps and there is lots of useful information here. I tried doing that Dukie and I saw the sleeve widen a little bit when I hammered it with a thin chisel. I had no luck getting my bolt to come loose. I just ended up changing out the leafs while the front still attached, some things were in the way but it wasn't too bad. I am all finished and here are some pictures. lift is about 4-5 inches, still waiting for shock absorbers to come in.
So....it's been a couple years....sorry. Got into knife making, had a baby, got a 3rd car, so the Waggy got parked in favor of double the gas mileage. But, we're moving in the fall and I've gotten 'permission' to make the heep DD worthy, so back in I go.
I'm gonna dump a bunch of photos from that summer session I mentioned a few posts up, but the details will be sparse, as I did the work two years ago and really don't remember specifics.
Lets start out with the leaves.
Scored a ridiculous deal on 2 sets, so one got sold and the other set ended up on the jeep.
Had to use some fire to break a nut loose, but other than that, no heartburn that I can remember.
New leaves aren't flat, like the old ones.
PB Blast errything!
More PB
Use the jack to compress the shock and support the axle as you take the leaves off
Needed my cheater bar, so I had to have some extensions and needed to support is as I was doing the loosening.
Out it comes
Off they come.
Off it comes
new brake hose - didn't end up using it as I couldn't get the old hose fittings loose...
