Sprayed the bedliner on today, not really looking for a two-tone look so I just went up to the first body crease. Took off the flares off to do a good job and the majority of the studs snapped. Don't know if they'll be going back on any time soon.

I like it! Wish I knew how to weld...I need to get my gear and just start welding!
Great progress

That's how you learn! My welds are far from perfect, most would probably say not even close to good. But I haven't had a weld fail...yet. These will test my lucky streak I'm sure.

Went to Big Bear today. It was a trip for a science project with the kids so I didn't hit any of the good wheeling spots, but I did find time for some back road fun.
Close to the beginning of 3N16

After we found a mudded spot where the melted snow was collecting. Kid approved.

Haven't really done much to Jeep lately, at least nothing noteworthy. That changed when the wife got me a new stereo for my Bday. Just what I wanted, a tuner/media player. Chech the depth, custom mounting possibilities?!

Never investigated the speakers till this point. All stock, three of the four are blown. New ones on order and since I still have the subs from my old truck I'll probably end up throwing one or two into Jeep.

Not sure exactly how I got this far, but it needed to be done. Took out the center console to clean/repair it and replace the burnt out bulbs at the gear indicator. It was pretty nasty in there.

Got my 5.25 speakers in today. Nothing special, just the cheapest 2-way RF's I could find. Should be good enough for some clear highs. Probably get around to installing them this weekend. Too hot and too tired right now.

Those spot welds...they were probably stronger than my welds!

Even an XJ that has lived in SoCal it's whole life can have rust inside the rockers, beware.

Progress

Test fit

My welds. Yes, you can weld sheet metal to 1/4" tube. It's just tricky.

And on there!

Grabbed a couple cans of spray on truck bed liner. Maybe tomorrow I'll coat them. It took 8hrs, and that was with two people. Me and a guy that had done it once before. Overall a pretty smooth job, except for welding upside down trying to do the bottom. No, I won't show my nasty booger welds. Horrible.
Man i need to learn how to weld lol builds coming along nicely

Got all 4 speakers installed finally. Actually installed the two in the sound bar about the time of my last post, and got the two in the front doors done today. Doesn't sound half bad for what it is, at least with the doors done, adds a little depth to the music. Blah blah words, blah blah pics:

Yet another long overdue update...
My son commented the other day that my headlights aren't working. They were, it's just near impossible to tell that they are on since the factory setup is pretty bad as we all know. If you recall (pages and pages ago) I had a new harness and lights just sitting in the garage.

This is one of the "sealed" units that I removed

Look familiar? This is what's going in.

Took of the header panel for a couple reasons; wanted a super clean wire job and needed some room, and wanted to trash this stupid air block thing. What's this for???

Here's the new lights on, exciting stuff.

Don't have a comparison shot, use your imagination. This is in the middle of a sunny summer day, with all the garage lights on. Still can easily distinguish the headlight pattern. Can't wait to drive with the sun down.

The "super clean" wiring job that I mentioned is only halfway done. The harness itself is ran very tidy, the power wire is ran crappy temporarily. I plan on wiring a small fuse block for accessories such as this and a small LED bar that is sitting around. As always, I'll post pics when that is tackled.

Well, today was pretty frustrating. Expected to get the power wire for the amp and the LED bar harness hooked up...that didn't happen. Looks like I'll have to punch a hole through the firewall and buy a grommet, I can't find any existing holes that are easily accessible and will fit everything I need to pass.
I did get the small fuse block plugged in, even used heat shrink, f'ing fancy! Used 4 of the 6 spots, don't think the other 2 will be needed. Good spot for a couple spare fuses.

Try looking at the firewall behind the brake booster. I'm converting an automatic to a manual and it has the hole for the clutch. The hole is about 1.5 inches around. It's plugged but that comes out pretty easily.

Brake booster on the left, main wiring harness below.

Jeep has been regulated to street duty lately, poor Jeep. I figured I'd take it to its natural habitat so it can stretch its legs. Big Bear, 2N09/3N16.

Supposed to get more this weekend. I'll be heading back a couple more times before it's gone. Let me know when you go.
