Default UPDATE .. stripped oil drain bolt / threads in pan ..SYPHON PUMP helped alot

due for oil change .. time to do this

using sharpened flat BIG screwdriver to pry between bolt & pan / outward pressure, with ratchet on bolt head

bolt backed out a bit .. final removal came with help of my trusty pickle fork, came right out .. same procedure .. pickle fork provided even pressure on both sides of bolt

got the bolt out .. but trashed .. new bolt wouldnt engage / threads

flashlight: hole in pan

there is approx 3/8" of trashed threads in drain hole .. doesnt look I broke the nut inside loose

used the rubber / boat drain type twist plug with oil resist gasket maker around the edges .. temp fix .. photo is prior to gasket material, fit snug going in

we used an Ebay 12 volt / $20 / oil dipstick tube syphon to get oil out 1st .. so oil wasn't dripping in my face

pump worked great .. even changed the oil in an Audi using it / low ground clearance on audi .. made that 1 super easy

QUESTION

Retap hole?

Oversize plug? I almost bought over size plug .. but retapping sounds better

but, how much bigger on retap .. 5/16? 14mm?

Syphon pump review .. worked like a champ, despite some bad reviews. I primed / tested mine with fresh oil

I read: the oil being suctioned keeps pump lubed within

.. took 10 minutes to drain each vehicle

as far as leftover oil.. when I got that bolt out .. very small amount

1st: get oil hot / remove filler cap to avoid vacuum within engine. dipstick drain tube fits snug.

we marked the length of dipstick on the clear drain tubing, it went maybe 2 inches deeper .. could clearly feel bottom of pan with drain tube

thoughts on re-tap size?

Shouldn't matter on retail size. Drill out a clean hole and retap to whatever you can.

And there is no difference in suction vs normal draining methods.

I just dont want to go too big .. or not big enough.. waste money on drill bits

thinkin my radiator guys .. could do it efficient / cheap / they have all those bits
