Got a set on my front bumper, a little red loctite and got them nice and tight. Haven't moved at all.

On topic,
Thanx for the motivation, I think I'm gonna give this a shot.

I really like 'em. The only thing I don't like about 'em is the crappy mounting bracket and bolts they provide, but i guess it's to be expected when you're only paying $30 a pair. I haven't had any issues with my wiring but I constantly have to adjust the angle of the front lights. I think a better set of brackets and a hex bolt with a nut and washers will take care of it though.

Oh yeah, just use dielectric grease if your worried. I know some "mr. Know it all and have been there done that and have pictures and proof to show you" will probably come and tell me I'm wrong and it's very common to cut holes in your hood and drown your jeep with rain. For whoever that is.. This guy doesn't care to hear it. I'm just putting my thoughts and opinions out there. Not trying to start any non sense here. Just saying.

Distributors have a gasket for a reason. And rain falls down so there's no way it can get UP into the spark plug boot. Never had any problems with rain from my hood vents. One of my favorite mods so far.

I know this an old old thread and hasn't been used in a while but I just had a tranny cooling line blow out the other day. It was an easy fix, just cut off the metal insert piece and used a hose clamp, which I'm surprised they didn't use from the beginning because those wont fail like the cheap thin metal tabs on the inside of the fitting did. So after the quick roadside fix and top off of tranny fluid I went strait to the parts store and bought a new tranny cooler and fan and installed them both. I noticed how ridiculously hot the hood and inside the engine compartment was and remembered the homebrew hood vents I read about a long while back but never got to it. So I think in the last two days I've read everything on hood vents and where to place them for most effective use on or offroad. How big. Yada yada yada. So I'm doing the whole grill o sheets and permatex adhesive route. Mainly cause its super cheap (under $20) and easy as hell and reliable. Already have all the materials. I will get it done after work tomorrow. I just wanted to say that in all the write ups and thoughts people had on this mod, why the heck is so many people concerned about water getting in the engine compartment? I know it "COULD" do harm to maybe the distributor and maybe one or two other "MAYBE" electronics.... Very very unlikely though. Has anyone ever washed their engine with a pressure washer? Ever mob down a muddy wet trail full of monster water pot holes? This all gets your engine soaked with that stuff called.. Um..uh.. Oh yeah WATER!!! A little bit or a lot of rain isn't going to do a **** thing to the engine through a couple hole cut in the hood and restricted by a louvre or grill o sheets or whatever someone chooses to use. Maybe if they cut a big ***** hole over the distributor and drove it into a lake... Then you'll have some issues. I just thought it was funny how there was always a handful of people that had to over think this mod and look at all the "what ifs" and "could happens" and throw it in everyone's face as if they are stupid and crazy for doing this or thinking about doing this mod. Rain won't hurt your engine unless its an apocalyptic end of the world rain forest down poor positioned directly over a hole cut above you distributor then picked up by a hurricane and carried out to sea. So anyways. Thanks for all the creative brain juice and ideas you motivators put out there. I love it and refer to these forums for just about any question I have or idea I have. Keep it up
I love the vents. Vent a lot of heat and look great.

It's been more than 3 years since I did the vents (no drip pans) and the 'ol XJ has been through hurricanes, 'noreasters, rivers, and plenty of power washings and I haven't had a single stumble, stutter, or shudder in terms of how it runs. The only water protection I've done for my underhood electronics is di-electric grease - nothing else. And even then it's been at least 3 years since I've added any more to any of them. Vents work people. Take my words for it.
