What parks do you wheel at so I know to stay away. When I have my family out in the jeep for a fun weekend I would not want to be any were near a rig with no brakes. Also if you have no rear brakes and you blow a front line your boned.

OP, be responsible. If you are wheeling with anyone other than yourself do the rear disc brake swap. People here will tell you to go pound salt if you don't have brakes on all 4 wheels.

Also be aware that cat removal is a federal offense and discussion of such is banned on this forum as set out in the rules.

I took the rear disc brake set up off of an 03 Liberty and everything bolted right on. I didn't hook up the E brake so it was an easy swap. It cost a little over $100 for the parts and took maybe 2 hours to do. I wheel in the mud alot and the disc setup holds up to it. All you need are the discs, the calipers, the short rubber lines to the calipers and the mounting brackets. You can get the parts off of a grand cherokee too, but chances are if you find a Liberty in the JY, the parts will be in better shape.

X2 it is really very very simple. A new kit is way overpriced for what you can get at the JY

Ive done this on my last couple axle builds

http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/...g/WELD275.html

The calipers are like $15 each
pads around $20
small brake hoses are cheap.

you just need to do your own homework and find a 5 lug rotor that will work. Ive only done 6 and 8 lug applications.

they work amazing.

I can't imagine not having rear brakes. The wheeling you do must be pretty boring not to require them.

I've driven without rear brakes... They only account for 30% of your braking power. And by driving without them I mean my shoes were completely gone and they weren't adjusted and they were not making contact. Sure I didn't stop like a Cadillac but I still did and once I did get my rear brakes fixed up it only changed my stopping power a little bit. If its just a mud jeep and you don't drive it on the road then there shouldn't be a problem.

alot of yall are just whiners, drums in the rear dont do any stopping power when their full of mud. i'll source the parts and do the swap and see how it goes.
As for that tereflex kit, they are out of their mind.

Thats what reverse is for, when do i go over 10 mph? never. and i doubt you could keep up with my jeeps at any park.
If you have ever been to a park with more than 100 vehicles, ive looked, alot of XJs, trucks and buggies don't even have rear brakes...I guess stay away from most parks then

I know it's trailered and you only do mud, but if i was you i would want full stopping power just in case something goes wrong. And like i said before, with no rear brakes you have nearly no stopping power in reverse, especially on mud. Just play it safe and do the disk conversion. Just because others run without rears doesn't mean you should to.

OP thanks for the laughs, and thanks for all the research into the useless rear brakes...I always thought that the engineers and DOT were pulling our legs making us buy parts we never needed.............

i guess if all you do is go into a mudhole and put your foot to the floor you will be fine.

but add any other kind of wheeling to that and you will realize how important having control of all 4 wheels is.
