Inspection stations

The Renix control system is "pre-OBD," and therefore does not have a "Check Engine Lamp". It also does not "store" or "throw" Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) or "Parameter IDs" (PIDs) - see: OBD-II PIDs.[5] This is a common problem at vehicle inspection, particularly in California and other jurisdictions with emission standards. Most inspection stations are not aware and will try to explain that the CEL/MIL "doesn't work" (note: there may be a cutout for it, but no bulb). It is recommended that the inspection technician be shown the "OBD Exempt" federal emissions label (located under the hood) and/or have the factory service manual as a reference to avoid this problem.

Never knew of that? They usually just strap mine to the dino and test the smog.

They dont even do that, up here...
All they do here, is make sure all your lights work, and no holes into the passenger area. Well, if your vehicle is old enough...I have no clue what they do with OBDII equipped vehicles.

Yea I live in California and there real sticklers about smog checks. If your "Check Engine" light is on then you fail before he even starts testing the vehicle! Lame, That's why I love that the Renix Jeep doesn't even have one b/c I'm sure it would always be on...

In AZ they just have the dino, smog probe, and a gas cap check.

To turn off the emission light you have to replace the emission timer thingy which is non serviceable. Located upwards of right drivers side kick panel in dash. Its a big box with a connector can't miss it.
