This is the rear of the engine, you can see the coolant temp sensor right near the middle of the the picture, near the rear of the engine closest to the stand

This is the front, and you can see on the right hand side there is the throttle position sensor, intake air temp sensor, injectors and the manifolds.

This is the left side of the engine. The distributor, ignition coil and dipstick ground should be visible if you zoom in. The dipstick ground is located right above the golden end of the ignition coil where the plug wire goes from the coil to the distributor.

It’s finally coming together as a functioning rotating assembly. My boss said I’m about to have the most expensive 4 banger on the road.

Also don’t mind the painted sealing surfaces. I will clean that up and I’m not dumb enough to try and let that seal with paint.

I think the black will contrast very well with the blue. Plus, white gets dirty really easily and it doesn’t want to bond to aluminum very well

My “new” ax15. Now i no longer have to worry about if my transmission is ever going to go out again.

I’m liking the “wet” look this paint gives off. That’s what I was going for in the beginning and I think it turned out just right

This engine looks so small when it’s completely stripped down to just the block

Rod bearings show the same type of wear, but thankfully I don’t see any signs of a bent rod on any of them

These are the main bearing caps. They all show the same groove wear that you’d find from dirty oil. I did see some slight “bent crank wear” on the middle bearings, so I’ll more than likely get a crank with the bearings included

Nothing remarkable here. The pistons must be standard sized, because there’s no markings indicating any kind of over-sized pistons being used. (Side note, I thought there would be more area between the cylinders, so I’m probably only going to go 0.0010 over, if even that.)

The distributor drive gear is really worn down. My boss said that was the source of my noise, and my slight misfire

You can see where the lobe has is actually flatter. I haven’t measured lift yet, but I’m pretty sure this cam is done

As you can see, nothing out of the ordinary it looks like. I might be wrong, as I don’t pull off enough heads to know what looks out of the ordinary

Parts that I’m saving are over here. There’s another pile that has the radiator hoses, water pump/thermostat and housing, all of the gaskets, the balancer that’s broken into pieces, and the clutch and fan that are all getting replaced.

Got most of the outside disassembled. I was planning on pulling the head today, but I need a 13mm 12 point socket to crack the outside head studs loose

You can see the date on here, 9/20/11, which I’m guessing means the block was made on that date? I’m not sure if a machinist put that there to let someone know it was rebuilt or work was done to it? My boss seems inclined that it’s just a reman block. It would make sense because the head has more rust in the water passages than the block does. Can anyone tell me more info about this?

And this is the engine bay with no engine or trans. It’s still a rats nest, and I plan on pulling the entire engine harness and repairing it.

I actually like how the suspension sits without the engine. I guess this is what my Jeep will look like when I put 3 inch lift coils on it.

This is the engine bay before anything was removed. Took a few more for reference when I put everything back together. It really looks like a rats nest
