Here's the area I'm talking about with the interior panels removed.

Lets move a little closer. The next photo will be viewed in the rough direction of this arrow.

A totally stock Jeep would have a bag of fiberglass or cotton sound deadener stuck in here. This thing always seems to soak up water, so I had previously removed it.

So I tried to do a ZJ shift handle swap. I had to use that hammer too much to be happy with it and still couldn't get it to shift back into park, so rather than adjust it I just went back to stock.

I wanted to make sure I had pulled out that fiberglass bag that always soaks up water and rusts the quarter panel out. Turns out I already had. But I found a lot of dirt in the bottom, so I went to find out where it came from.

Oh look, a gap in the panels right into the wheelwell. Thanks Chrysler.

I gooped up the exposed seam on back of both rear wheel wells with windshield polyurethane. No more leaks!

I picked up one of these trunk cubby bags. It's super well built! I plan to use it to store spare parts.

I kept the harness out of the Green jeep just for this occasion. Some of the insulation was already cracking, I wrapped it in electrical tape hoping to delay the inevitable.

The main body harness out of the dearly departed Green jeep is still hanging around too. I unwrapped it to pull a few wires for my next project.

Power locks! These are the control wires loomed into their own standalone harness.

I've got some work to do to figure out how I'm going to control them. My current plan is to integrate an aftermarket control system, as the stock system involves too many modules that would be a pain to integrate into the manual window doors.

I also grabbed this clutch pedal out of a TJ Wrangler. It will need to be modified, but I'm starting to pile up parts for a manual swap!

Not much fluid came out because of the missing yoke, but it wasn't too burned.

Sadly, someone pulled the front yoke off at the junkyard.

The first part of tearing down anything with tight tolerances and bearings is cleaning it to keep crap out. Much better.

The pry slots weren't getting enough leverage to split the case. I used a bolt and nut here to spread the case halves apart.

That seems like more shavings than I'd want. I have no context for what's normal to find on these, or even the mileage on this case.
