Here is something interesting my 88 Jeep has an extension molded into the box and butts up against the fender using a foam strip to seal it, the second photo shows it molded in with the air box which is original. Most likely all Jeeps newer than 88 aren't like this thanks to Chrysler. My 88 has Mopar and Chrysler parts, so I wasn't surprised when the Chrysler parts gave out first. They also apparently did away with that extension on the air box knowing the gas mileage would decrease.

This is my Jeep (original owner) 88 XJ, 300,000 plus miles, 2 door, 5spd, 4x4 with 3" tough country lift with 31" tires. This also has the rocking style seats for both driver and passenger seats.

This Jeep is my wifes 96 auto sport. I replaced the mechanical fan to electric fans. Also the factory air box is going to be added back in and running a short connection from the box to the opening that is located behind the headlight to ensure cooler air is entering the airbox.

My wifes Silver 96 XJ Automatic, my 88 XJ with 3" lift and 31 x 15 Cooper tires, 5spd, two door. The 3" lift brand is Rough Country, I didn't want any cut away done but the front lower part of the fender guard was trimmed a tad for tire clearance.

The crapy Z linkage for the transfer case was replaced with a straight linkage using threaded rod and Hemi joints, this was done in the past. I did this because the rubber grommets on the factory set up failed and were costly to replace them. My cost to do this was around $25.00.
