homebrew hood vents

Description:
it's my 1st attempt @ sheet metal work, so bare w/ me. also, pics are in reverse sequence, so u might have to jump around a little, but you'll hopefully get the idea. so far, little to no water in engine compartment. the vents hang over the back of the orig. holes by about 6" & have a small lip around the edge (sorta like a gutter).

2.)  he used interior wall heater registers/vents & no drain pan, so water was dripping right on the distrib. & other electronics.  note the driver's side isn't even straight!

3.)  so i took some exterior heater/fan exhaust vents i got for cheap from the local recycle center ($8)

4.)  took a pair of tin snips & cut the front lip off.....

5.)  slid & riveted the lip up inside the rest of the cover.

7.)  riveted in some screen (the screen came from the 8" vent that these were covering).  if i were to do this again, i would use some heavier screen, or small expanded aluminum or steel.

8.)  then i painted w/ hi-temp bbq black (i don't care too much about the paint right now, but will probably re-paint @ a later point.

9.)  took off the old vents & used a steel brush on my drill to clean up the bond-o & other stuff the po used to full the gaps

10.)  then i slid the lip of the vent under the hood & laid the L-brackets i made on top of the hood.

13.)  from front.  i still have to redo a few rivets.  i think next time i should rtv between the sheet metal & make my cuts a little cleaner.  it's a little rough, but i don't mind.  i like the mad max/d.i.y. look.
