Be sure to have keys out of ignition, unplug the CPS connector (found behind the grey connector - shown in pic). Wiggle your rachet setup in that same area and locate CPS (just a little forward of the connector and WAY ontop of transmission). Forget using your sight, just rely on your fingers to locate the two bolts, and place the 11mm socket over one and go to town. Should take a bit, they are not short. Here is the culprit, which after looking for a while online, I have found to be a very common issue. Your CPS may look a bit different, depending on model and year. Once again, this came out of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 4.0L six cylinder.

While it may seem like the "Holy Grail" of parts on a Jeep (hard to find), I hope these images will help. It's literally at the top -front of the transmission. You can BARELY see it (look for two bolts spaced apart about 3 inches).

This picture was taken looking down towards the transmission from the driver side front wheel. The sensor has already been removed. You can see the two bolt holes for the sensor.

Here is the rachet setup I used to remove the crankshaft position sensor. It will be awkward at first to use, but imagine yourself blind. You'll only be using your hands and not your eyes. It may be a bit easier to have the Jeep on lifts or axle stands. I did not have this luxury...so it was a bit tough on the arms. Patience will be key.
