Default Towing Springs for a 2004 Grand Cherokee

I bought a used 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited about a month ago. The seller said he added a trailer hitch but never used it. Last week I put on of those cargo platforms to haul a big garden tiller. When I hit bumps it scraped the pavement. The seller never beefed up the rear springs. A friend said I needed a variable load rear coil spring. The more weight you put to it, the stiffer it gets. I tried finding some for this vehicle with no luck. Where can I get some, or what solutions does anybody have? I asked the Jeep dealer what springs came in the towing package and they said it's so old they can't get that info anymore. What I DON"T want are Lift Springs (I'm short and have a hard enough time getting in and out) and I DON"T want any Air Bags you always have to fiddle with. THANKS.

I tow a 21’ Airstream, had the same problem, air bags were potentially troublesome, and then after some searches I found Sumo coils, part # CSS 1168, bought them at the Sumo Spring warehouse in Carpinteria, CA on my way back home from Pismo Beach, you can get them online. Installation was super easy, had to readjust my tow bar height for level, very easy. I’ve been absolutely satisfied with the results, as they didn’t stiffen the ride, or change the height, just provided the towing load support enhancement I needed for under $200. Anecdotally, my neighbor pulls a car trailer for his hot rod and said he’s had lots of trouble with the air bags losing air usually at the worst possible time, so I recommended Sumo springs for leaf springs. I believe Sumo coils were originally designed to provide front end coil support for snow plow attachments, but are perfectly compatible for towing load support on the rear coils.
