Default I learned that I have a seclect trac on a wj that has quadra drive Transfer case

So I had some front end work done on my 04 WJ, including CV axles. in this process,I learned that my WJ has a selec trac front differential instead of the quadra drive front differential. The previous owner replaced the front axle before I got it and thought that the axle was a quadradrive axle. I was replacing cv axles and hubs on tit and the cv axles I purchased were for a quadra drive sytem and they did not fit. The CV axles for a select trac system do/did fit the WJ. What options do I have? Can I run the selec trac; connecting it all back up? OR do I have to swap out front axle. Should I replace quadra drive transfer case with selec trac transfer case and make necessary modifications.

Thanks for any input.

Selec track and Quadra track is based on the transfer case. Some front axles in WJs with the Quadra track transfer case came with a Varilock differential which uses different axle shafts. The front axle can be used with either transfer case, however swapping the NP247 Quadra track transfer case out for a NP242 Selec track one wouldn't be a bad idea since the NP242 is a much better transfer case.

All V8 WJ's came with a Dana 44 front axle and a Dana 35 rear axle and 3.73 gearing. The 4.0L WJ came with a Dana 35 front axle and Dana 30 rear axle, and 3.55 gearing, although I believe the Dana 35/44 and 3.73 gearing were available with the Up Country Suspension Group. The 3.73 also included Limited Slip Differential (LSD) in the rear, while LSD was optional on the 4.0L WJ's. That's all I know about WJ axles.

We've owned 3 WJ's (a '99 and 2 '02s), all 3 with Selec-Trac (NV242). The '99 and my current '02 have the 3.55/4.0L/D35 Front/D30 Rear/NON-LSD combination, while the first '02 we had was a 3.73/4.7L/D35 Front/D44 Rear/LSD combination.

V8 WJs came with a Dana 30 front and Dana 44A rear. 4.0 WJs came with a Dana 30 front and Dana 35 rear, they never put and Dana 44 in the front of a WJ and they never made a Dana 35 front axle at all.

Would running the front axle with an open differential cause problems if the transfer case is a quadradrive transfer case? The original front axle was Limited slip diff/varilok diff.

No, the transfer case doesn't know or care what differentials you have in each axle.

I know this is an old post but just in case someone finds it via google like I did....

This almost couldn't be more wrong. All WJs have a Dana 30 in the FRONT. The 4.0s have a Dana 35 in the REAR and the V8s have a Dana 44a (aluminum, also sometimes referred to as the Dana 44HD but not to be confused with what is also colloquially referred to as the Dana 44HD that comes in the JK; they are different axles) in the REAR.
