Jeep XJ 97 Overhead console swap
Hello Everyone,
I own a 1997 Jeep XJ Country and I'm trying to install an overhead console into it. I have an overhead console, wiring harness, and bracket from a 98 XJ. I have the console mounted and halfway wired. The temp gauge, MPG, and compass work just fine, however my dome lights and visor lights do not work. From my understanding, all the wires are the same just the connections are different. Also from what I've read on other forums there are extra wires that aren't used. So my question is what is the best way to wire the dome/visor lights to the existing harness in the fuse panel on the passenger side? I've never really cut and spliced/soldered wires together and I've heard of people pulling the pins out and re-pinning the connectors. Any input and pictures would be greatly appreciated.
-Thanks, Justin

I would like to see some pictures of what you are dealing with. I put a '99 in an '00. For the most part it was plug and play. I did have to take the bigger of the 2 connectors that go down in the passenger side footwell area from the '00 dome light harness and repin it on the '99 overhead console harness. Also I used the lighted visors from the '99 because they are one wire with an internal ground and the '00 is a 2 wires with an external ground.
Have you seen these shots here?

Hey Justin did you ever get this working? Asking because I've got a 97 XJ Country that i want to install the overhead console in it as well! I haven't done it yet (still looking for the console) but would love to hear if you fixed your lights issue.
