This is with 1156 incandescents. Can’t wait to get some led for there.

Waynerd 11-17-2018 06:48 PM

They actually throw light pretty far. Some even on the ground outside

Waynerd 05-12-2019 11:28 PM

So the led’s I had in the two shifter bezels are toast. They died after only a few months. Pretty sure it’s the dimming that killed them. Now in search of leds that won’t fry from the dimmer switch for the dash lights. Any suggestions?

I used the interior LED's from onewaylight. Overhead, footwell, etc.
They sell LED packages for gauges and whatnot.
Wish I realized they sold all the exterior LED's, blinkers, brakes, etc, before I drove myself nuts piecing it all together myself.
If I ever go into my dash, heater core replacement or the like, might do the LED gauge package when I am there. Maybe.
Might want to check them out.

I can't say enough nice things about these guys.
For instance I had the dome light set up in my '00. But had the pieces to put in the overhead console.
So I contacted them asking if I could buy the dome light interior kit and buy what I would need for the
overhead separately so I had them when I got around to the install. They said don't use a promo code
and we will just give them to you.

When I did the install one of the 4 vanity mirror bulbs would not work.
I contacted them by email. Jason got back to me in like 15 minutes saying he would send out replacements.
I happened to post about it here on "What did you do today" and somebody mentioned that LED's had polarity.
So out of the 4 I managed to put in 3 right. Turned the 4th one around and was good. Contacted Jason as quick
as I could and apologized for being an idiot. Fortunately they had not sent out the bulbs yet.

Awhile after I bought and installed these they contacted me. Saying that the 4 LED's in my overhead turned out
to be not up to their standards. Offered to send me the 4 new ones for free. They worked fine though best I can tell.
And to be clear they contacted me.

Customer service like that is above and beyond if you ask me.

So unfortunately it looks like they don't sell the 2 you need separately. And looking around at the instrument LED's I did see this:
  • Dimming will be non-existent or greatly reduced compared to stock dimming.
    • Blue is recommended if you want something that reads clearly and isn't as intense as white.
So that might matter to you. Also this confused me.
  • Transmission bezel insert
    • optional install - risk to scratching bezel print, but improves color appearance
Found this under the blue lights. Also you might want to contact them and see if they will just sell you the two you need.

adding an LED Light bar to the stock XJ fog lights switch

My question is, if I attach an LED light bar to the front bumper and wire it to work with the stock fog lamps switch, do I need to replace the stock wiring harness that work the fog lamps, like I had to replace the wiring harness for the headlights when I swapped them for LEDs. Thanks for your help.

Waynerd 10-30-2019 06:39 PM

I would think you could just connect it to the fog wiring. Why do you have to change your harness for led headlights?

Sorry as a newbie I didn't even know there were so many Cherokee variations. I've got a 2000 Cherokee and love to replace EOM headlights with LEDs. problem is there's so many of them I have no idea of what's good. Looked at Trucklites and JW Spekaer, but that's a bit to much for my pocketbook. Like to keep it at about $200 max if possible.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance

I was wondering about the $80 trucklite imposters I’ve been seeing as well. My only issue with LED headlights is that they wouldn’t produce enough heat in the winter to melt snow and ice. I’ve actually fallen in love with the projector kits from ruggedretrofits.com. If I had money to spend on headlights those are what I would buy. For now I’m going to settle for the Hella Ecode H4 conversions and a relay harness. Those look to be a huge improvement for around $50.

Been looking at the Osrams since the feedback has been good, but I have no idea of how they'll perform in the snow. These run about $85-90 bucks.

Thing that worries me is all the discussion about LEDs freezing in bad winter conditions.

There are a couple people here who run them.
They were happy with them.

Ah the question is, have they been used in severe winter weather? Lot of chatter about problems on another forum as far as I've read. Those folks that can are going for the heated lens version of the JE Speaker lights. That is a wee bit stiff for ne.

One of the reasons I don't go down this road. I find that the stock versions of the BriteLite Wagners and the headlight harness upgrade works well enough for me.
I do have these headlight plastic covers that I picked up off Ebay awhile back. From England for $32 shipped.
I do wonder if they would help or hurt when using LED headlights in the winter though.

Hey Ralph. A few things. I never responded to your post about one way light. I’m still undecided whether to get one of those kits or buy separate bulbs through superbrightleds.com. But superbright has so many options of different configurations with the same base that it’s so hard to decide.

I had a set of headlight covers on an s10 Blazer but they were tinted and I had to remove them at night or else I could barely see. Lol also I had the matching taillight covers. They were sold everywhere in the late 90’s. Yours are the only ones I’ve ever seen on an XJ though.

Last thing i was wondering what you used behind your grill or if it’s something that’s made specific for the grill. I know it’s like the 5.9 ZJ. Is it actually a ZJ part?

If we are talking interior I say go with onewaylight. I have the utmost respect for those guys. Their customer service is beyond great. Own their interior LED set up. They emailed me sometime after I bought it. They found out the quality of some of the bulbs they sent me were not up to their standards. I believe it was the map light ones in the overhead console. Offered to send me new ones for free. Here is the thing. I was not having any trouble with them. To be clear they contacted me. Hard not do business with a company like that. LOL.

But my goal for the exterior LED's were to buy ones that could be locally sourced if you needed one immediately. If one of your interior lights goes not like you could get a ticket. Why I went with Sylvania Zevo's. Which is why I did not want to go through onewaylight or superbrightleds. But because of the issues with some LED's I had to go to superbrightleds anyway. Remember my thread. And knowing how thorough onewaylight is I am betting you will not have those issues.

The headlight covers were an Ebay find from England. $32 shipped. I would not run tinted for the exact reason you gave. Never saw any before or since.

So the grill inserts were a kind of funny story. I wanted some but the only ones I could find new were these. I did not really like them. And they are not even available anymore but they were back a couple years.

So I am doing my usual stalking of Craigslist and I come across some guy selling the chrome grill and headlight bezels for the XJ. Despite my Up Country/Limited/ETC clone build it is something I did not want to add. But what caught my eye was the grill inserts in the chrome grill. Be frank with you I don't even think the guy noticed them. So $80 shipped and everything was mine. The were a brushed metal but I used Plastic Dip to make them black. And thanks for noticing about the 5.9 look. Cause that was exactly what I was going for. Especially since I have the 5.9 spare tire cover in the back, by the way another Craigslist find for $30 shipped from CO in perfect condition (like taken off on day one and put in a closet perfect condition), and the 5.9 louvers cut in my hood. Some shots for you.

All green and there's blue and red radio

I want to replace my tail lights with new leds but I'm not sure which I should buy, Amazon is all screwed up. It's showing Wrangler lights instead. Also I've seen threads here of people listing interior LED bulbs for newer models. But not older keeps like mine..will the same bulbs work? Thanks for ur help
