Default still ISSUES after cluster swap

OK, been away for a bit doing stuff but did the cluster swap in my son's '88 pioneer (4cyl, 4spd) since I didn't like the idiot lights.
Followed Cruisers advise on checking the fueses (put cluster in and nothing but speedo/alt iirc) found several fuses that just crumbled apart..
NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I SEEN THAT!

ALL lights worked when I drove it home and before the cluster swap.
And yes, I did change out the sensors..
BUT keep blowing fuses to the cluster lights and blower smoked on me. Haven't had time to dig under to see what burnt, and it's been nice so I just use the vent. The fuse was blown and just thought that was it, but NO.

I hate electrical work, and that's what I seem to be having the last 4 vehicles.
Is there more of a draw with the gauges vs the "ol" cluster that I need to go to a higher rating fuse?
