You still have the space under the back for it right? Being 4wd there should be room to fit a full sized tire. Search Craiglist for a used wheel and tire, local tire shop, or online. A cheap steel rim and cheap tire shouldn't be more than $200 brand new. Changing a tire yourself seems to have become a lost art. Vehicle manufacturers have stopped putting them in cars since most people wouldn't know what to do with it and just call AAA.

but even if you call AA you could have a blowout that they cannot fix so then what ... for me I have used the donut to get me to Tires Plus or some such to buy a new tire instead of loading the whole car and have to tow it there??? And what if its closed and I have to get home?

Go buy a spare OEM style wheel and put a 225/60/17 tire on it, cheaper than getting something from the dealership

I stopped at a newly opened local tire guy and he checked all his donuts, he sells used tires, and said none had the proper bolt configuration that would match the setup I have and that he would check in his warehouse. You are saying 17" is it supposed to be shorter than what is on there now which is 18"? Apparently any old wheel and any old 18" tire would not necessarily be a match and would not work? Sorry I am so ignorant about this if this question sounds stupid.

Its NOT about calling someone to change your tire it's about having tire to change.

In this case, it's about him having bought a used vehicle that the spare was missing, which is why I suggested buying a used one or hitting a tire shop. (and explained why many new card don't include one)

I just previously said, you missed it, that this is front wheel drive, not 4wd if that matters. The point is if you blow out a tire AAA cannot help because there is nothing to change it to. I carry my own air compressor if its just a matter of getting to a tire place, but if its sidewall is blown out no one can help without a tire to change into. So I guess I just have to spring for the online tire kit which costs half of the price of the dealers cost of $750. Bummer, on top of which it does not fit into the well made for it without shaving off some of the foam beautifully designed inset that goes on top of the tire because it does not fit. I am always shocked to deal with the disappointments of having design engineers not try out their product so now it fits into the well but the elegant insert needs to be shaved down to be able to close the cover.

This seems the best idea yet assuming the wheel is not exorbitant.

On my 2014, I have a full size spare, so i don't know exactly how your tire well is configured. I imagine if you go to a junkyard you may be able to find one in the back of a wrecked jeep. Most junkyards would probably be willing to help, especially if you will be paying a good price. If the yard charges you 150 for what you need, its still cheaper than the other option.

thanx the issue is the lug nut configuration as to fit and apparently the 2017 are different from previous but not sure??? so far 2 junk yards said the car is too new so there are not a lot of them around but i will look into seeing if previous tires will fit ... it has to fit onto the wheel and it has to fit in the well ... I am not at this point willing to "shave down" the holder cover that goes over the wheel and has storage compartments in it for jack, tools and jumpers. I went to local Jeep and they said it fits o problem but if I try to return it 20% restocking fee and with tax it is $375 includes jack and tool. Thanx for your suggestion will check further at junkyards.

Yes the 2014+ KL Cherokees have a different bolt pattern than previous. The Cherokees also had a few different wheel and tire size options https://tiresize.com/tires/Jeep/Cherokee/2017/. What size are your tires? They should have a marking similar to P265/65-18. You may be able to substitute a different, easier to find size that is narrower but the same height. Also if you have 18" wheels, a 17" should also fit and be easier to find less expensive tires.

I would try calling up discounttiredirect or tirerack and tell them you're looking for real cheap and see what they have (they'll need to know the existing size as well). I just priced a cheap wheel and low end falken tire , guessing on 18" wheels and came up with $250 shipped to my door. You could probably walk into a local tire shop and they could order something for similar pricing as well.

They are 18" so r u saying that I could buy a 17" and it would be okay spare at least to get me to the tire store? But I am thinking by the time I buy a jack and whatever else comes in the kit I will be close to their $350 price so maybe save $50 but at least I would know if it fits in the well.

I think I might go back to the Parts Manager and ask him, not his sales person, if he would guarantee to take it back if it doesn't fit correctly without a 20% restock fee. It could be that he never encountered people complaining that they had to shave off the foam cover to fit over the tire, they just did it. But as a girlie girl, I care a lot about style and not mutiliating the design. Thanx for your input, I will proceed with your suggestion.
