Default Cherokee "death wobble"

We recently purchased a 2017 Cherokee with Active II so we could flat tow behind our RV -

We've been told by many Rv'ers that we need to have a wiring harness installed by the dealer to correct this issue.

We've asked the dealer and they have no idea if it's needed for the 2017.

Can anyone at Jeep answer this question?

Hi adamjebmom,

Yes, the wiring harness kit is necessary for the vehicle. Your dealership can pull up the following technical service bulletin:

NUMBER: 08-010-17
GROUP: Electrical
DATE: January 28, 2017

SUBJECT:
Accessory Kit to Enhance Flat Tow Performance
MODELS:
2014 - **2017** (KL) Jeep Cherokee

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may describe that their vehicle shakes or bounces while being flat towed.
DISCUSSION:
If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, a Mopar Accessory kit is available to improve flat tow towing behavior. Ensure that all instructions included in the kit (#K6862569), are followed during the install process.

Unfortunately, this is not a warrantable item. It is considered a Mopar accessory, and therefore is customer pay.

I'm glad you have received an answer to your question but the title of your thread is not even remotely related. Please use a title that matches your question next time. Maybe something like "Flat tow wiring harness?" would have been more appropriate.

Sorry if my title doesn't meet your guidelines - this was my first post and from what everyone has told us the "death wobble" was what I needed to mention when I talked to Jeep -

Well you got some bad advice man haha...and no need to be snarky lol....its your first post so he taught you a little bit. Your issue had nothing to do with death wobble.

We were told that this "death wobble" when flat towing is an issue. What is the right thing to fix it then? Our Jeep dealership can't give us a clear answer. I'm wanting to make sure we have the right part to make sure this doesn't happen.

Actual "death wobble" occurs typically at higher (highway) speeds and very often, though not always, on lifted rigs. Most typically is due to worn, loose, suspension, steering, or other front end components. If it catches the driver off guard its damn scary and can cause an accident / kill you.

No one is doubting you have an issue when towing. Martlor is just telling you that by using the term death wobble you aren't accurately describing the issue. The harness mentioned above may well likely be your fix. Also may have helped you to post this in the correct sub forum.

Default Part 68321424AB - Wiring Kit - Recreational Flat Tow

We are very frustrated as we just purchased a 42' Tiffin RV and I own a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. We have been told by the dealership that we can not flat tow our vehicle unless we have this wiring kit and have been told that it is in production and doesn't know when it will be available. This is absolutely ridiculous. Can you tell me when we can have this part to tow our vehicle. Jeep needs to provide better customer service.

When will the Part 68321424AB - Wiring kit for Recreational Flat Tow be available? This is very frustrating that Jeep dealership can not provide a better answer then they do not know when it will be available. This is not good customer Jeep service.

Good luck with that. I don't think Kori will be able to help you if your dealer is saying they're awaiting inventory. You might check if there is an aftermarket version.

Kori also doesn't like negativity - I asked a valid question a while back (will we ever see an XJ type vehicle again) and got no response. I think it was because I questioned the quality of the 8-spd auto.

I'm curious though, how exactly does a towing wiring kit (presumably to operate the brake, turn signal, tail lights on a vehicle being towed) going to help with the vehicle shaking and bouncing?!? Is there some kind of bracket or hardware in that kit or are the new KLs' suspensions completely computerized at this point?
