14 KL 3.2 Engine Tap On Startup
Long time reader, first time poster. Hopefully you guys can help me.
So I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2. I have damn near every package except for sunroof and the one where it parks itself. At around 15,000 miles the oil pressure sending switch went bad. It kept telling me I had no oil pressure on the dash but when I check the oil level it was good. Brought it to the dealer and they replaced it and fix the issue saying it was common.
Right around the same time I started to notice that in the morning when I start the engine at almost any temperature it would tap lightly for about two seconds. Now it seems to do it after the vehicle is shut off for one hour or longer. I now have 30,000 miles on the car and it keeps doing it. I have run Royal Purple full synthetic 0w20 since it had 40 miles on it. I keep telling the dealer that I think the anti drain back valve that is built into the oil filter housing is bad. I have also tried different brands of filters with no noticeable change. I am worried that this is doing excess wear-and-tear to the engine. The oil should stay inside the housing until you open the lid like to change the oil filter. I feel like it is not doing that. Most Anti drain back valve are built into the oil filters. But with a paper cartridge filter there is no way to do it. It has to be built into the housing somehow. It would be insanely stupid and counterproductive to build a setup that no longer has an anti drain back valve.
Can someone for everyone let me know if you guys experienced anything like this? I don't ever remember hearing it before the 15000 mile mark. I was a mechanic for 9 years now active duty Army. I am pretty in tune with my vehicles and the sounds and noises and quirks. I am almost 100% sure I never heard that sound before.
Thanks in advance for the input guys. I have faith in you to help me with this problem.

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to revisit your dealership I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

Ok this may sound crazy, but it seems that 92 octane fuel has stopped this from happening. I am still testing this out, but i put a little in and noticed that it for the most part has gone away. Only been a few starts so not 100% sure yet, but if so how the hell could this be possible?

Don't think it could. If it was knock it would not go away after startup.
We used to say sticky lifter but ain't one so what else? A stuck rocker that had some burr on it that has loosened up? Or..... The Ghost in the Machine?
