hey my names eric and im looking at buying a jeep grand cherokee with the 5.2. its a 94. i was just wondering if there are any issues i need to look into right away. thanks for the input

Check the trans fluid for color and smell and make sure it shifts correctly as they're plagued w/heat issues. If it is full-time 4WD see if the front tires chirp/hop on a slow tight turn as that's a sign of problems with the viscous coupling in the transfer case.

hey thanks for all the love guys, so its a 94 jeep grand cherokee with the all-trac all time 4 wheel drive and the 5.2 im getting it for dirt cheap cause i have to replace the radiator and the bumper and grill no biggie just heard there were a ton of transmission issues with these cars so anything really critical i should know about the trans?

There are a few common issues, apparently, with the transmisison on the Grands. My brother had issues with his, and -thought- it was the shift solenoid since it would occasionally not go into 3rd. Apparently thats a common issue, his just turned out to need a good cleaning and band adjustment though.

The biggest problems he's had are random wiring gremlins, particularly with the brake lights, rust under the plastic body panels, and broken plastic body panel clips. However the Jeep wasn't very well maintained, and is really quite solid.
