Wobble in my XJ?
I got my first Cherokee, a 98 Sport, as a grad gift last May. She had 178k and now has about 180k. I've taken her for some gentle off-roading once, but otherwise she is my commuter for getting back and forth to college everyday, which is about a 30 min. drive. I love her to death so far, and the only problem I have experienced is what I'm guessing is considered death wobble. Everything in my XJ is stock except for the stereo, if that counts. Anyway, the first time it happened was about 2 months ago, while my girlfriend was with me. I was making about 70mph when I hit a bump on the HW, and the whole steering wheel, and what seemed like the whole front end started to vibrate somewhat violently. It scared the crap out of me more than it did my gf. I slowed to about 50mph and the wobble subsided. This did not reoccur until a few weeks later, around the same speed, and again stops once I slow to about 50-55mph. It does it every so often, and I just let off the gas when it does, and it always goes away. I want to know if this is just shimmy, or if it's the dreaded DW I've read about. And if it's either, what can I do to remedy it?
