First off, let me just say that I am a complete NOOB.
About a month ago I decided that I would finally start looking for a Jeep, as I have been a long-time admirer of the brand. Almost instantly I came across a beautiful XJ on Craigslist, but was beat to the punch and never even got to sit in the seat. Instantly I fell in lust with the XJ... they look incredibly mean when built right!
Well, I finally found another one in my area that looks to be a good buy. It's a 2001 with the 4.0L I6. I really don't know a ton about these monsters, and so here I am. I'll be officially handing over the cash for a title in a few hours. I look forward to getting great tips here from you guys. I already know I have a few rust spots to take care of, as well as fender flares since the previous owner chopped them to put on big tires (currently looks awful). Anxious, but excited.
She's officially in my possession! First things first: I need to make sure this Jeep is prepared for another 150k.
Are there particular things I should be checking for outside of regular maintenance to make sure this beast can crawl another 5 years? I guess I'm curious about pre-existing issues that might exist in this particular year/model.
